Topic: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

Ok, so a new thread for any behind the scenes content you wish to share. I thought there was another thread for this, but couldn't find it.

To kick things off, this is the behind the scenes picture of what is probably the most fragile set construction ever. All in the name of cotton wool ball clouds. Yes, that is a camera at the top of that peculiarly balanced baseplate. It was actually easier to film this shot this way than the less fragile way (but still very difficult).

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

This doesn't show much - but you can see I made a framework for my camera on the left.  I'll post a better pick later on.  It's made from lego - of course - and secured in nice and tight.  I can slide the frame around the glass table and if I need to secure it to the base plate then I can do that as well.

I can adjust the height of the legs to set the camera higher or lower and with this arrangement - my camera is actually secured upside down for stability.  Stop Mostion Pro lets me invert the image during live viewing and capture so up/down orientation really is not a factor.

The "set" in the background is from my upcoming Star Wars parody.  That "scene" is for my storyboard - for which I'm now on version 3.

Let's get this thread going, it would be neat to see behind the scenes of current projects.

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

Sure is! It'll be a bit until it's finished, everything is so large in scale and most models appear for only one or two shots, takes a long time. It'll be good though, promise.

Lookin' sweet, NXT. Lovely way of holding down the set you got there, I should try that some time.

Here are a few pictures from a longer film I've been working on for a while now.

Even though I've already animated a good portion of this, there's still a lot of filming left. I won't have any time in the summer except for about the last two weeks however, so it is still going to be some time before the film's finished.

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

Maybe is it logitech webcam c300? I've used this model for almost four years and I'm pretty satisfied with the results. But I couldn't control all the settings manually in my mac, specially the white balance.

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

Mac's aren't known for their webcam drivers. Hence why I use a DSLR and Dragonframe, otherwise I would have been more than happy just with a quickcam.

This is a behind the scenes of the animation I'm making for the motion blur animation challenge. The set is really large, and I move the largest half as I take each frame. It's proving to be time consuming, but I really am liking to final look.

I really do wish I had another straight road base and a 32x32 green base. It'd make this animation so much easier.

@ Tobias:

I think that one of those lamps is shining from too close to behind the camera.  Generally it's a good idea to keep the light from shining anywhere near an angle tat comes near the general direction of the camera.  Or at least that's a general guideline I almost always apply to my lighting.

I'm kind of confused as to what you're saying here. Do you mean that you should always keeps lights in front of the camera, or just anywhere that isn't directly behind?

Youtube @TheRealSonjira I consider it a personal defeat if my pee is not perfectly clear every time.]

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

@Sonjira - I suppose it could cause shadows to be cast by the camera.
Anyway, here's two BTS pictures from me:

This is an overview of my organized mess.

And this is a closer look at the set and camera rig. It's pretty basic, and allows me to do a really nice rotating movement.

And sorry for the large image sizes.

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

@legoguy I envy anyone with a double monitor setup. I curse my love for retina screens that tend to cost thousands of dollars......

Nice dolly by the way mini/smile

Here is another behind the scenes shot for my animation coming out tomorrow called 'speed'. The car is attached to my dolly so the car stays in the same place by the perspective of the camera, and motion blurs everything else.

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

I seem to have missed this thread the first time around, I think it's a good idea. I'll post something once I get a "studio" set up in my new apartment and actually start animating again. (hopefully soon) Also, there looks to be some good stuff in the works, I'm excited. mini/smile

Re: Show Us Your Behind the Scenes Pictures and Videos!

I created an album in flickr where you can see some pics from my last big work: The Lake-Town Chase (inspired by The Hobbit films). Check it out here. And you can see the final result (all the video) here.

Here's a pic from a shot for my Avengers: Defenders of Earth video. Don't worry for the video a have a blue screen behind it so you don't have to see my mess I made. mini/lol
