Topic: Editing Software Question

Hello everyone,

A few days ago I decided it was time for an editing software upgrade. I've been using Sony Vegas 9 for probably close to three years now, and it's getting to the point where it crashes quite frequently. Anyhow, I was just wondering what everyone used as their main editing program, and which one you would suggest for me to use.

Thanks for your time! mini/smile

Re: Editing Software Question

It depends on your budget. I have a fairly low budget so I got Sony Vegas HD Platinum 11 for about $40 on Amazon.
For those with much larger budgets I've seen a lot of brickfilmers and other film makers on YouTube use Adobe Premiere for editing.

Re: Editing Software Question

Premiere Pro is pretty great.

Re: Editing Software Question

Premiere and Vegas would definitely be your best bets. I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio, and I really love it, it's sped up my editing process to be much faster than I ever thought possible back when I was using Movie Maker. mini/tongue

Re: Editing Software Question

I love Vegas 11, which I switched to from 9 about 2 months ago.  It's the best program around that doesn't have a steep learning curve.

But how much does it cost?

Re: Editing Software Question

Well, END FIlms found his for $40 on Amazon.  I got mine for $60 after shopping around.  You could pay more if you go to the Staple/Office Depot.

Re: Editing Software Question

It looks good, I may have to buy it when I have some cash.

Re: Editing Software Question

Nemo, in the meantime, Sony's web site gives you a free trial for 45 days!  And it's fully-functional.

But wouldn't it be 13 instead of 11 which can be bought for cheaper on Amazon? What are the differences between 11 and 13? Would it be worth spending the extra money on the full version of 13 instead of 11? I'm kind of confused. mini/dizzy

Re: Editing Software Question

I'm sure you can find a full feature list for 11 if you look around, and there's one for 13 on Sony's website. I know one big difference is that 11 is only 32 bit, so it can only utilize a maximum of 4 GB of ram, while 13 is 64 bit. Depending on the scale of your projects this may or may not matter.

Re: Editing Software Question

I see Movie Studio 13 is quite affordable.  Anyone had experience with that?  There are a few editions available.

So I know that my laptop is 64bit. If I get 32 bit software, will it have any negative effects on the computer or the software?

No, it will just be limited to using 4 GB of RAM. A 64 bit system can run a 32 bit program, but I'm not sure if a 32 bit system can handle a 64 bit program, although I don't think you could even buy a 32 bit system anymore, they're outdated, and I think Windows Vista was the last version to even come in a 32 bit option, but don't quote me on that.
