Topic: Software for Mac?

Hey guys,

I used to brick film a ton a few years ago, but I slowly grew out of it. Now, I'd like to experiment and try making another video. However, I used to use a version of Sony Vegas on my PC, but I now have a Macbook Pro for school, and I was wondering what good programs I can use to put together brick films and all of that basic editing.

Anyways, thanks!

iStopmotion is a good piece of software, but it's not free.
And iMovie will give you decent editing features, but iMovie messes up the quality, so if you want clear video you should upgrade.

Re: Software for Mac?

Well, do you have a budget? Or are you looking for free software?

There's a Mac specific page for software links in the resources section.

Re: Software for Mac?

If on a budget, the following are your friend:

- iStopmotion
- Pixelmator (opposed to Photoshop)
- iMovie 10

If you are financially endowed:

- Dragonframe
- Photoshop
- Final Cut Pro X or Premiere

Another great photo editor is Acorn. It's 50 bucks on the Mac App Store and is also a great alternative to Photoshop.

Yes, except for the fact that you'd have to be nuts to buy Acorn over Pixelmator, which at 20 smackeroonies cheeper (amongst other things), is the superior choice.

FrameByFrame. It's free.

When you export, export is as a BMP video at highest quality.

Re: Software for Mac?

I've been using iStopmotion for years, and it's pretty great. I never had great experiences with trying to use free Mac stop-motion programs, so I really recommend you buy something if you can afford it. iStopmotion got a massive price cut when it when from version 2 to version 3, too.

Re: Software for Mac?

Thanks for all the replies, guys! I'm going to try out iStopMotion with the 5 day free trial, and if it doesn't fit me needs, I'll check out the other stuff that you guys have mentioned. mini/bigsmile
