Topic: Green Screen/Blue Screen Help

Alrighty. I've got a problem with my camera where I can't get the right green/blue for keying. I mean, I don't know what exact color it is supposed to be, but right now it looks way to dry. When I key the green or blue out in my video editor, it just goes wacko and keys random stuff. (i.e., NOT WHAT I WANT) I'm using a webcam (c920 to be specific), and I'm not able to do proper keying. I'd like to implement effects and all that using keying, but I can't if my camera won't work. Here are some examples of what usually happens, using a clip with blue screen.

As you can see, something went wrong. Any help would be appreciated!

Ehm, sometimes issues with green/blue screen also happens to me. But what you should to know about chroma keying, is that it's extra sensitive to any color differences. So if you set it to chroma key color #0000FF

It chroma keys it, but when couldn't find anything like that it's starting to make some crazy errors. Your blue screen color looks more like #008CE1

So what's the best solution is to use the color picker and pick exactly the color from your photo. Worked fine for me mini/smile

Re: Green Screen/Blue Screen Help

Well, I've tried that, but it still doesn't work. I pick the color of my photo, but then it justs keys random things. I'll try to figure something out. I just got Hitfilm 2, so hopefully that will provide a solution. Thanks!

Re: Green Screen/Blue Screen Help

You might be selecting a bad area of the blue and using too low a threshold on the colour selection for the keying.

GIMP found it possible to key it out in one go, so most software should be able to do it in video. If not you might have to gruel through doing it frame by frame manually.

blur the edges, but only a tiny bit so there aren't any ridged edges

A Life? Cool! Where can I download one of those from?

Well, I use either my frame capture software, or my video editor. I prefer my video editor, because you can key in live footage, not just one static image. I just got HitFilm, so I might experiment with that to see if I can do something. And CartoonKid, I could easily key it out in my image editor, but I'm obviously not going to do that as it would take a long time.

Yes, I could easily key it out in my image editor, but I'm obviously not going to do that as it would take a long time, and I wouldn't be able to do live footage.

I must say, I'm a bit embarrassed at how good you guys are with this, and your using my photo! mini/XD

I just used the colour select tool and hit delete. Had to erase a little bit on the right and that's it.

Real movies use that effect all the time. You could put the transparent images together and just put your video with transparency over the footage you want where the bluescreen is.

It beats masking over 70+ photos for a 3 second shot of a LEGO floating away.

How exactly is this done?

Haha, sure. I guess I meant that there were more efficient ways to perform the task. But I now see this new method you brought up.
