I saw Aladdin a few days ago. If it wasn't for the genie the film would've been horrible: he really was the only thing for which it was worth watching it.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Breakfast at Tiffany's

I have to say I felt this film was kind of overrated. I had two problems with the movie. The first was the pacing and certain scenes being dragged out way farther than they should've been - I felt like the movie really could've been cut down a fair amount and still retained most of the scenes. My second problem was that the story was really more episodic and less linear than an average picture, making the story feel like it wasn't going anywhere. Both the problems combined ruined my experience of the film.

Still, I could get the message and theme of the movie by the end - and I was happy I at least got that. Oh, and Audrey Hepurn is always enjoyable, even when the movie has it's problems.

Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid

I read the screenplay last semester in a script analysis class, so I have been wanting to watch this for some time. It was on Netflix and I just finally got around to viewing it. I have to say, I really enjoyed Robert Redford and Paul Newman. However I had my problems with the script and I felt the movie was an even lesser version of the screenplay. The scene(s) where the duo is on the run from the posse feel like they are dragged out way longer than they need to be, making the first half of the movie kind of boring. Also the female lead's character isn't as fleshed out as it was in the screenplay. A really vital scene is cut from the movie that helps give her character that final arc.

Overall the film's highlight is the dialogue between the stars. I've got The Sting from Netflix so I'm hoping it's just as enjoyable.

High Society (1956)

Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Louis Armstrong, and Frank Sinatra in the same picture. I'm kind of partial to these people so I was automatically able to enjoy the picture more than most people. It does lag a little in the beginning and the character development feels like it could've been better, but the songs are fun and overall the story was alright.

So has anyone else seen these movies? What's your opinion on them? I feel kind of sad posting if we're not even going to discuss them.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Miami Connection (1987)

I came in with absolutely low expectations.  In the end, even if it was BAD with all the terrible dialogue, bad editing and all that jazz, it was so awesome.  In summary: so 80s it hurts.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I am Legend

Well great, now I am all depressed and stuff.

I don't like post-apocalypse movies and hate post-apocalypse brickfilms, but I have a friend who keeps telling me to watch this film. After awhile I started to get curious and when I found it playing on TV I decided to watch it.

This film started off really, really good. The story telling, the cinematography, the lighting, the suspense, everything was perfect! (except the CGI, which was awful in this movie). I was genuinely curious and wanted to know more. I also liked how well they portrayed the post-apocalyptic world as apposed to other films. It felt real, and lonely. It actually reminded me of Wall-e (not a favorite film of mine, but the both do the whole "alone" thing very well). You could definitely tell the main character was doing everything he could to keep himself from going crazy.

Spoiler (click to read)

The part were the dog died was really, really, sad. It wasn't too over the top either. You could tell that the main character was losing his marbles.

I had no idea what was going to happen at this point and was really, really excited for the rest of the film because they could do anything at this point. This where everything started to go downhill.

Spoiler (click to read)

It is revealed that his wife and daughter were killed, and without the dog it kind of leaves the character with nothing the fight for. I didn't even care about him...at all. I already knew how this film was going to end.

Its halfway through the film, and the dog was just shoved aside to introduce two human characters we don't care about. Its way too late to introduce major characters especially if you did not have anything preparing/leading up to their arrival.

Spoiler (click to read)

This movie should have completely centered around the relationship between the dog and the main character (heck, that's what the somewhat misleading poster even suggested. The film should be about them). They were able to tell so much with one person and an animal who never speaks. Also, the "darkseekers" were built up to be kind of strange. They are just stupid zombies, yes, but they act too human-like. They have have emotions and seem to be more then just zombies. Their facial expression resemble that of lving human characters a lot. In the end, they just end up being dumb monsters. He just picks up the grenade (completely predictable) and kills them all... I could care less.

The ending was so awful, shallow, predictable, overused and crappy that decide to go research this film online later. As it turns out there was an alternate ending that was much better. it actually answered some of the questions we wanted answered, and made a heck of a lot more sense. Instead,

Spoiler (click to read)

He just kills himself in a cliché, blaze-of-glory to save the rest of humanity. I didn't care though, because he has nothing else to live for at this point and no reason for the audience to care.

This film could have been great, but they just destroyed it. Nice going jerks.

2/10

PS: Sorry if this post was too long.

no more brickfilming *sad face*.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

ParaNorman (2012)

Good movie.  There were some people who thought there were some very inappropriate parts.  I don't believe the movie was aimed at a very young audience or rather you could say it did not look down to children.

Spoiler (click to read)

The part about Mitch having a boyfriend might have been a bit umm... unexpected

Anyway overall a decent movie, made using stopmotion animation (part of why I watched) and I don't regret finally watching it.

Escape Plan
I loved this movie! a lot of people said they didn't like it but I thought that it was a great movie plus it had 3 of my favorite actors: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Jim Caviezel.

Spoiler (click to read)

One of my favorite parts is at the end when Arnold is about to blow up the ship and say have a nice day, !@#$%^& then Jim goes like hmmm and explodes

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Wrath of the Titans

Total mulch. I really enjoyed the first, despite its numerous flaws, and I'm a huge fan of anything Harryhausen, but this sequel was so pointless and far removed from the original. I couldn't even enjoy it in a 'switch-off-brain-enjoy-pwetty-pictures' kind of way. It had the same overarching plot as Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, only PJSM did it better (but if you're going to go for Percy Jackson, read the books, they're far superior). Ares was horrifically badly acted, and his motives didn't make sense,

Spoiler (click to read)

the scene where Zeus and Hades take on Kronos' army was underwhelming when the first film set up just how powerful the gods could be, and Kronos himself was reduced to a simpleton monster incapable of speech.

3/10

Man of Steel

Well, this was a rewatch, so I won't go into it too much. Safe to say it's still my favourite movie. The first flight scene seals the deal, as does the Krypton prologue.

License To Kill

The 2nd and final Timothy Dalton Bond movie. I really enjoyed this one. Perhaps not as much as "The Living Daylights" but a good watch nevertheless. This movie was a lot darker and violent then many of the other Bond movies. Must have been quite a shock to go from Roger Moore driving a "Bondola" down a Venice street, to Timothy Dalton feeding a corrupt agent to the sharks...

8 out of 10.

Thank you so much! I hate zombie anything, and I think the genre (if I can call it that) is overdone, and makes next to no sense. Surely there are much fresher and more original ideas out there other than zombies and post-apocalypse worlds.

Mickey, here's a tip, move your viewership beyond the mentally debilitating big budget, 'big league' movies that Hollywood regularly excretes. I seriously wonder whether you have seen the likes of 28 Days Later or Shaun of the Dead. If not, do so soon for the sake of your currently highly obscured outlooks.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower
I'm not sure if it's just the limitations of the format, but this was slightly weird to watch. While in the book everything sounds plausible, it's kind of odd to see the events actually happen. However this film was super! I'm really glad they let the author of the book direct his film because he did a great job on everything.

Another great movie by Billy Wilder.

The book is much better. Its about a characters slow decent into madness in the face of loneliness. Though, I find it ironic that the book became the zombie apocalypse equivalent of Lord of the Rings when its actually about a vampire apocalypse.

I hate zombie apocalypses because Shaun of the Dead was released almost ten years ago and it pretty much blew the genre apart. Normally when something that so perfectly satirises an oversaturated entity, that oversaturated entity sulks off in shame until its rethinked its life, like Spaceballs with the Sci-Fi genre. You don't just carry on like nothing happened.

There was some hope for zombies in video games, but after Resident Evil 4 and Left 4 Dead even the most exciting narrative medium around is running out of ideas for zombies. I think DayZ would work better if the antagonists were vampires and so they only came out at night, meaning that during the day you would have to prepare for survival and fend off the various looters and other players as they too desperately search for stuff to last the night. And I like the sound of The Walking Dead, in how its souly character-focused and the zombies are kinda just...there, but then why can't it be something else? In pretty much every modern zombie apocalypse I always find myself asking "Why Zombies?"

Although, I'm also just sick of apocalypses in general. Even Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg could only satirise cliched apocalypse films by being a cliched apocalypse film (that'll show them!)

Anyway:

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

I'm sorry, I love this.

Yes, its stupid. Yes, the films momentum begins to slowly fade away as the good songs dwindle (the most important part of a musical is the music. This is why Greece gets a passing grade from me - because the plot is dreadful, but the music is ). Yes, its weird in a if-you-don't-like-it-then-the-jokes-on-you kind of way.

But...I don't know. Something this crazy just has to be admired. Its like the Bohemian Rhapsody of cinema...

Solid film, great casting, but just missed the mark in my opinion.  I certainly enjoyed it, but don't think it deserves to win the Oscar for best film.
