Probably something like Henry Thoreau, who was like an angsty 20 year old who once decided not to pay taxes and had to spend one night in jail before his aunt bailed him out.. and then proceeded to use that incident as a "oh my life is so hard as a young white male in the mid nineteeth century"

You really don't seem to know much about Thoreau at all. You should read about him before declaring him to be some kind of beatnik. He didn't want to pay the taxes in question because he didn't support the way his taxes were being used (see: the Mexican-American War), and he was bailed out of jail after one night because someone paid the taxes without his permission. Thoreau also openly opposed slavery (supported John Brown, wrote abolitionist literature, participated in the underground railroad). He was a guy who thought the individual should have a say in how he lived his life- given the views you've expressed on this forum, I suspect you and Thoreau have some shared philosophy- it'd be a shame if you didn't realize that because you bought into a laughably shallow version of his life.

Sorry if I come off that way in my post but that is actually my informed opinion of Thoreau, not some random thing I decided to say after reading a wikipedia article. I actually have read Thoreau and that is what I think of him.
I also know that that is still not the archetype I'm trying to think of and this is driving me crazy.

Argo

Pretty good.  I liked how well the late 70s setting was done.  It felt almost like watching a movie made in that time, which is rather interesting.
I'll probably never watch it again, but it's a good one time film and has some very exciting moments.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Tropic Thunder
Such a funny movie! This is one of the funniest movie's I've seen in a while! I think that the movie is good and I don't really have any bad things to say about it so I will rate it

Despicable Me 2
Mediocre; definitely not as strong as its predecessor. But the film does provide for some laughs.

6.5/10

American Hustle
Was a little slow at parts, but gee-whiz was that a phenomenal film. Absolutely perfect writing and acting. Deserves every award nomination.

9/10

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Hunger Games

Okay, so it seems like I'm the last person on Earth to watch this, so I finally have. I have to say, I was slightly disappointed. I mean it was good, but just not great. I felt like the parts that could've been touching or intense just weren't what they could've been, or if there were scenes that tried to be touching or intense, they were with characters that nobody really cared about. And also the ending was extremely rushed, and literally left me like "Oh. Well I guess it's over."
I mean I enjoyed it overall, Jennifer Lawrence was awesome, pretty much everyone was great in their role.

But oh goodness...that shakycam. mini/eek

Apparently, Frozen is supposed to be right up there with all the other classic Disney cartoons. But, then I hear that it's just another kiddie movie. And when I watch the trailers, I'm just not impressed. But, maybe--just maybe--I'll give it a try when it comes to home media.

Is all the hype true?

I can't actually judge the film. I haven't seen it.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I can't enjoy another Disney movie unless it's a legit cartoon. This CGI crap is getting out of hand.

This film inspired that Terry guy to make 12 Monkeys.

Robinson Crusoe. (1954)

A classic, but a poorly sound editing job.

Frozen, in my opinion, is the best Disney animation since The Lion King (Excluding Pixar). While the material and humor was noticeably lighter than that of the early-mid 90's animations, that's probably because Disney didn't want to risk getting a harsher rating. Heck, it's rated PG because someone says the word 'butt' and there's a woman with a slit in her dress.

Film wise it was actually quite good. The story was not as routine as it sounds. Plus, the acting and songs were fantastic.

I don't rate it higher than Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, or The Little Mermaid, but I do think Frozen stands well on its own two feet.

Don't you mean Terry Gilliam, one of the many geniuses behind Monty Python (both the TV programmes and the films) and Time Bandits?

@JP, I think it might just be the by-the-numbers plot that didn't quite strike a chord with me. But, if its good as everyone says it is, I think I'll give it a try.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Gravity

After re-watching it since I saw it at release of it on IMAX, it actually isn't as good as people hype it to be. I love the sound editing, but Sandra Bullocks acting is mediocre and sometimes the physics in this movie don't work %100 to Zero G's.

Donnie Darko

I watched it again for the first time in a long while, and I must say, it's an all-round exquisite piece of film. Once you can grapple with the concept of the Tangent Universe and such, it really forms a relatively clear narrative (although I like the mysterious factor still).
