Topic: Divinity: Supermax CUUSOO Thread

Hullo thar! This 'ere be the thread for my new CUUSOO project (or rather, series of projects) called Divinity: Supermax!

What is Divinity: Supermax?
It's a potential theme in which many of Earth's gods are rounded up and put into a prison designed for superpowerful deities. Near-powerless, weaponless, and hopelessly outgunned by their robot captors, the gods must stage the breakout of the millennia, or risk losing everything.

Following Marduk (Babylonian king of the gods), Apollo (Greek god of light), Inari (Japanese goddess of foxes) and Thor (Norse god of thunder) this series of sets - each of which will have its own CUUSOO page, in line with the guidelines - this theme will take place in the prison itself, but also all across the world and the realms from which the gods come from.

Where did this start?
I was originally thinking of doing this as a brickfilm, and I still may well do, but I decided that I have other film ideas that would be a better use of my time. That said, I still wanted to get on and expand the material, and since I've been wanting to try CUUSOO for a while now I decided to start the project in a new form. Now I just have to get 10,000 supporters…wish me luck!

My first set is Cedar Forest Ambush, which you can view here once it has finished pending (I'll attach an image below anyway). It's only a small $7.99 set, as I thought I'd start the series with something small to test the water.

None of this is a very serious attempt at CUUSOO - just a bit of fun, to have a go - but if you like of the individual projects I'll be uploading please go ahead and support them.

Let me know if you like what you see, or if you have any qualms that I should try to address for future projects.

Re: Divinity: Supermax CUUSOO Thread

To be honest this looks like something I could put together with just some LEGO laying around on my desk after building a set.

Needs more detail than just the basic pieces everyone has.

A Life? Cool! Where can I download one of those from?

Re: Divinity: Supermax CUUSOO Thread

This is only the smallest and least detailed set, intended really as a quick test. I can see what you're saying, although I was quite pleased with the cedar tree and the cones of resin drooping down off it. This is also the first time I've actually ever used LDD.

What do people think of the name - too long? Could it be shortened to Godmax or is that a bit too cheesy?

This would probably sell for more than 7.99.  There are some pieces here unique to the set: the brown ice loli, the transparent green 1x1 brick with 4 side studs, plus I like 4x4 plates and lightning pieces.

Re: Divinity: Supermax CUUSOO Thread

I checked the piece/price ratio of the LEGO Movie sets and it seems accurate, but you're right about the unique pieces. That said, every piece was unique at one point, and LEGO's getting more adventurous in terms of piece-use every wave (except for the new Castle sets).

Re: Divinity: Supermax CUUSOO Thread

If we're talking LEGO policy standards, this would more than likely run $15.99

Re: Divinity: Supermax CUUSOO Thread

I don't want to spoil your project, but CUUSOO just recently did a statement that says that "Please keep your project limited to suggesting one stand-alone LEGO product, and not a series of products or playtheme. For example, you can submit a LEGO fire truck but we won't allow submissions of a "Fire Department Series" or similar. While it's possible we could consider your set as a starting point for a new play theme, any follow-up products would be developed internally and independently from LEGO CUUSOO".

Re: Divinity: Supermax CUUSOO Thread

That's why I'm doing each set as an individual CUUSOO project, and why I'm trying to make each one as independent as possible. At the stage I'm at so far, each of the sets I've designed has enough uniqueness to be a stand-alone. That way, if one got supported (which I honestly don't expect to happen by any stretch of the imagination) it wouldn't feel as if something were missing. This first set is a piece-fest, with the brown lollies and the minifig parts and the trans-green elements, and the focus is the cedar tree. It's not as if there's any overarching story that wouldn't make sense in itself (well, assuming you read the blurb anyhoo!).

This is all just a bit of fun anyway, I'm not expecting to get anywhere near 10,000 supporters on any of the projects. Then again, you know what they say - if you don't try, you definitely won't succeed. If you succeed, it's a good thing you tried. If you don't succeed, at least you tried.

Re: Divinity: Supermax CUUSOO Thread

But when you have a "set" like this, it's all pieces that everyone already has. You're better off creating a free instruction manual and creating the series through that.

Re: Divinity: Supermax CUUSOO Thread

I think LEGO would sell something like this for around $12.95, seeing that there are 3 minifigs in it.

Ok. That sounds good. I just wanted to make sure you knew.

I may just do that, y'know. Sounds solid. Is there a function in LDD that lets you do that?

Re: Divinity: Supermax CUUSOO Thread

Yeah, there is.  In Preferences (F6) check OUTLINES ON BRICKS, so your instruction book will show the borders of each brick, the way they appear in instruction books.  Then go to building guide mode by pressing the icon on the upper left corner (or f7).  From there there is an HTML instruction creator on the upper left corner.
