Re: Free Hitfilm Express

Rockydude411Bricks said earlier that he had a 32bit operating system and the program requires 64bit.

Re: Free Hitfilm Express

Ah, yes, that's probably true.  Maybe you should download it and just hang onto it in case you upgrade sometime soon.

Re: Free Hitfilm Express

Windows doesn't recognize the installer.  Time to complain about not getting my free stuff.

It worked fine for me on Windows 7 Ultimate

Download is 115MB, but the program won't import Helium Frog exports.
It'll import other any footage, but none of those clips for some reason.
So much for that. mini/lol

I'm sure I'll play with it more later, but for now it's useless.

If you export a helium frog export as an uncompressed .avi from virtual dub mod it works.

Re: Free Hitfilm Express

Man, this is an awesome deal. A bit too awesome though, how come they're officially giving out a program usually worth 150 dollars for free

EDIT Oh and apparently my computer can't run it

Re: Free Hitfilm Express

I got the free trial back when film riot was promoting it.

I just downloaded it....and its kind of watered down a bit. I doesn't really do much. mini/blankexpression

Re: Free Hitfilm Express

Thanks for the tip. I already have Final Cut Pro X... does this do anything Final Cut can't do?

Re: Free Hitfilm Express

What do you guys think of the editing/timeline in it?  Like compared to iMovie...
Because iMovie is poop and it's terribly laggy and awful for me now.  Has anyone used this for films around 5 minutes or so, audio, titles, all of it?

It would work for those purposes. But as far as crazy digital effects, its somewhat lame.

I think I'm going to try and use it for editing, I really need to stop using iMovie before I go insane.  I have After Effects for any crazy digital effects, I've got the tools but know the know-how...yet.

Re: Free Hitfilm Express

Can it do green-screening, gun flares, holographic projection type effects, lightsabers, stuff like that?  I'm a bit confused as to what exactly I could do with Hitfilm Express, since I'm not sure if the tutorials and videos from Hitfilm pertain to Express or Ultimate versions... also, what do you mean by "crazy digital effects"?

Re: Free Hitfilm Express

I have HitFilm Ultimate and I've never used it. I feel terrible. I bought it half price when it was a Kickstarter project, and I'm so used to After Effects that I just forget it's even there.

Re: Free Hitfilm Express

FlyingMinifig, I know it does greenscreening, gun flares, and lightsabers.  I'd imagine it could do holograms in some way...I'm not entirely sure though.  I used the lightsaber and greenscreening myself yesterday with an old SW test, so I know those work in this version.  I ran into the same problem with the tutorials, I'm not sure how many will work with both versions.  I think that when you start trying to use a particle simulator is when Express doesn't work anymore, but don't quote me on that.

Re: Free Hitfilm Express

Yeah the thing works, its only 64 bit though

Re: Free Hitfilm Express

Successfully installed. Thanks for the tip, Jonn, it probably helped me bypass some headaches.

Re: Free Hitfilm Express

Excellent, I thought as much Mighty Wanderer.

So I was being dumb when I said I couldn't find anywhere to use the serial number it gives you.  Once in the software you go to some place and try to export a video, it says it can't until you get the full version, so then you put in the code and it's a registered full version just like you bought it.
So the download itself is the trial version.  The code is what matters.
