As far as brickfilming, I think the "boy's toy" factor is relevant, but filmmaking's very skewed toward men in general. My university is 60% women and yet the film department is mostly guys. Of the girls in the department, very few are interested in actual directing of narrative films; they tend to go for other aspects like videography, producing, and the like.

I can vouch for this as well. My film classes generally have a 50/50 split of men and women. Most of the girls I know seem to be more interested in editing, producing, or writing. For some odd reason there aren't too many interested in directing.

Re: Café Corner

I thought I'd share this sickening situation.
I find it disheartening and ridiculous that such misguidedness and stupidity, under the façade of 'law', can meddle with natural process and ultimately the rights of those directly involved, to such a grotesque extent as this.

we watched this lovely documentary about editing in my AVP class (I forget the name but whatevrr) and essentially part of it talked about how editing was at first considered a menial job rather than a crucial part of filmmaking and therefore women in the 30s were able to get in on that industry, which is why there are many famous female film editors

Ew what the actual heck. at 20 weeks a baby looks like Voldemort's soul that they found in King's Cross station at the end of HP 7 part 2 and would not even survive. This is beyond any pro-choice/pro-life debate, this is a question of basic decency that obviously some people don't have (the doctors!!)

Re: Café Corner

While I don't believe in quotas, I'm proud to have two strong women and two strong men in my stories.  And one weird mailman.   As for innate qualities, there is a mountain of research on body chemicals that nature causes general gender differences in behavior.  One of the funniest things to come from the news media is a Time magazine article.  These are the exact words, no more or less: "Why are men & women different?  It may not be upbringing; new studies show they may be born that way."  People still laugh at the magazine cover two decades later because most people learned at age 3 that boys & girls are different when they are born (& considering the chromosome difference, they're also conceived that way!).

Carousel, I don't know why you injected an overtly political element into the thread with an article link that had absolutely nothing to do with Lego animation, or any kind of filming at all, or the current discussion at Cafe' Corner.  As you can see,TopitMonkeyDog and others are trying hard to avoid politics in their words as they are debating social issues.  Please refrain from fringe politics here.

Hey, anyone.  I got a ton of links to political news items that have nothing to do with Lego, animation, visual media, filmmaking, or our personal lives and anecdotes.  PM me if you want them.  But you won't, because you don't want them, because we're all here because we want to talk about different aspects of Lego.

Re: Café Corner

I found that article in the daily paper recently: I was really quite depressed and disgusted by it, and as it was on my mind, I though it'd be interesting to share it here and see other people's interpretations of it. Topit, for example, offered a wholesome opinion on it - and I thank him for doing so.

This is a select corner of BiM - exhibiting topics ranging from The Official Ronald Reagan Appreciation Thread to an area devoted to celebrating the sumpreme Doge - that is clearly populated with more mature members of the community.

So in a secluded zone, on an often shifting 580 page long thread where, I quote, "anything goes", I hardly think inciting a civil chat, with a bunch of cherry-picked people, on the moral & decency issues found within that particular article is anything worth lambasting.

Consequentially, I don't find much wrong with my original actions of posting such 'fringe politics' for discussion. Give me a break.

oh my god I love these politician pictures.

Carousel didn't really post anything about politics though! As I said in response to that,

It's more of a philosophical debate really.

I would also like to remind everyone that biological sex, gender identity, and gender expression are not necessarily correlating and anyways are based on what society sees as "masculine" or "feminine." A few studies showing these things do not prove much because there is a significant portion of kids who do try to transgress gender roles when it comes to toys and other things (past me for example!)

Re: Café Corner

Okay, guys.  Well, in that case, what I find concerning is therefore not political, but there is a concurrent case in California where a the parents of a teen on life support want to let her live, but the state is trying to dictate who may live and who may die.  It's they exact opposite of what's happening in the Texas case where pulling the plug also kills a healthy baby:

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/12 … more-time/

In a defeat for oppression, the courts have allowed the girl to live:

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/01 … lys-fight/

Fortunately, this is not a political story.  It's about people fighting for basic human freedom.
