We are going to do this, weather you support it or not. Nothing you say will change this.

I wasn't necessarily against this, until you firebombed me...

I wasn't firebombing you. I knew you were kind of for it.

Re: Experiment 13 (LEGO Video Game)

Alright, I think everyone is tired with arguing with you. Because you obviously are incapable of receiving criticism. And when you hear the criticism, you say "Well I'm making it and there's nothing you can do about it." And you only pay attention to about 20%, the parts that really don't matter, but if you listened to the other 80%, you'd realize that this is a bad, bad idea.

This basically describes the ideaology of this thread:

Every idea I have is a bad idea. I'm going to leave and destroy my computer. See you, not. You will never hear from me again. Goodbye. I will lock myself in a padded room with a suit like they wear in an asylum. Bye.

Sounds like a sad backstory. Maybe this is how you got those scars.

In all seriousness try use the ambition for a script or a set, heck, even a brickfilm. It'd take a lot less time and money and you'd get a lot more postive feedback I assure you.

Or you could follow my previous advise and make films...

Honestly, why are you so intent on these odd projects? Welcome to BricksinMotion, we are a community of filmmakers who use LEGO to animate. Perhaps the best way to be taken seriously by the Brickfilming Community is to try and think of original ideas for LEGO animated films.

This wont take money. We  are only using free software.

Your game would require an immense amount of money for research and licencing from The LEGO Company. You would need to establish trademarks and copyright your game, and you would also need to pay for the ESRB to rate it and you may need to charge money for it if you wanted a sliver of a chance of it making it on Steam, assuming you really meant that part.

Re: Experiment 13 (LEGO Video Game)

Not that this isn't anything that hasn't been said already, but I thought I may as well say it too.
Zac, you're trying to start too big.  In the past month or so you've tried to start two new websites, brickitysplit and earths united brickfilmers, you've tried to start and awards show, and now you're trying to make a video game.
Here's the thing: you have not been prepared in any of the cases.  Not even once.

You just get these grand ideas and then immediately put something about it in the forums without planning.  With the websites, you couldn't give any legitimate reason why anyone needs those websites and then you didn't even add anything that was remotely better than BiM (except for that epic google+ integration).  With the awards show you didn't even have the simplest part of the show figured out, what it would be for and how it would be judged or scored.
And now you're trying to start a video game (a big undertaking) without even knowing anything about it.

These all come back to one thing: preparation and giving it some thought.  You need to start thinking these things through more, give it a week or two, and if you still think it's doable, then make it SEEM doable.  Find something you can do, also.  For this video game, I'm sorry, but you can't lead the "team".  You can't even manage to organize anything small, let alone a group of people.

I gave you the same advise when you started brickitysplit; take some time to "spiff it up" yourself and work on making it presentable, clear, concise, understandable, beautiful, reasonable, usable, and just plain awesome.  Make yourself a game plan and actually PLAN what you want to get done.  You can't accomplish anything if you don't plan ANYTHING and you never follow through with anything because you eventually realize you can't handle it.

So you need to stop.   Take a break for a while.  Don't have delusions of grandeur.  Find one idea you like and PLAN PLAN PLAN PLAN PLAN.  Really, you should be making some brickfilms also to "clear your name" so to speak.  Right now you're known as that kid who keeps trying to do these big things but is terrible at planning and ends up causing some big arguments and then he runs away and cancels all his plans before getting all upset at people for trying to help you.

Please start listening to people who are giving you advise, or just stop trying to do things.  You really need to think things through, and most likely, not do most of them.

Re: Experiment 13 (LEGO Video Game)

I'm gonna have to agree with these guys. when i checked out what you had going on and it basically looked like a copy of portal2 and half life 2 and you really need to take peoples advice instead of just ignoring it you can not properly manage a team and you have no experience in video game design you don't know any code and didn't even know what game engine you where going to use! i'm going to say what JonnDthunDer said: PLAN the most planning you did here was think "well i should make a video game" you didn't even start to learn code until after you started the script. you haven't ever had any experience with video games just because you played them doesn't mean you can make them its like thinking because you have seen a brickfilm you think you can make a epic 2 hour long one without any prior knowledge now i don't have anything against having two hobbies i in fact tried to take up video game design a couple months back as a second hobby and i ended up spending 1-2 months researching and ended up only making a simple rig where you walk around. you on the other hand decide to just start off when you first got the idea without research or prior knowledge i spent a month learning javascript and have recently been powering through python i have asked people who can actually make video games for help.

also i'm going to point out you didn't listen to your own teammates i'm going to say this again you cant lead a team and not know how to do anything sure you can rite a script but anyone can do that.

and DO NOT just go replying to this post or any other saying 'i planned' or 'its just a free game' or 'everyone is saying that its a stupid idea'

well you did not plan true planning would of taken about 2+ months and you would of known AT LEAST one code none of this was done. secondly it doesn't matter if this game is free or costs $100 you still need people it is possible to use freeware but a a certain point that isn't good enough now thats assuming you have skill which right now you don't  and that again boils back down to the fact that you didn't plan. People are saying this is a stupid idea because again you didn't plan and of corse all the other things you did on the site adds to it. Right now no one will want to help based on you lack of plans and trying to take on a full on project of something you have no experience with you will fail people don't want to be commanded by a team leader who knows nothing about the subject at hand.

by the way stop using "its just for fun" as an excuse even if it may be just for fun your fun includes you wanting everyone to be part of your idea and when that doesn't happen you get mad.

once again unless this isn't clear enough :

Re: Experiment 13 (LEGO Video Game)

As stated before, listen to what the people have to say. If you don't, your "big plans" will fail you, Zac.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: Experiment 13 (LEGO Video Game)

Let's let cooler heads prevail.  By that, I mean, LOCKED while y'all calm down.  It's his idea, delusional or not, if he wants to run with it, successfully or into the ground, let him.  You've all made your point now let him be.

Side note: I took a game development class for my undergrad.  I was the CG animator, my partner was the programmer.  It was a steep learning curve and in the end, our final project was just one level FPS where you just knock down some armed guards who don't even shoot back.  Our project was above average compared to the rest of the class so that's saying a lot of what Computer Science majors can accomplish in 10 weeks: very little.  So yes, it'll take time, very few people will commit their free time in developing a free game so good luck finding willing participants.

If/when it's finished, let us know so we can play it.

Someone will unlock this thread when you all have calmed down.
