I have green carpet in my house... at least I will until tomorrow.

But I guess for news rooms, it is really uncommon.

I've decided to just make some random set. I like the look of how it's turning out though.

I particularly like the couch. Any critique to improve the look of it (to make it look more home-like) would be great! mini/bigsmile

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

That wall is way too much.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I suggest changing the wall to a more eye pleasing color ie. tan, brown, all white, etc.  Also some of the bricks appear to be not pressed down firmly in place.  I think the over all design looks quite good though.

Ahhh yeah!!!

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I agree with the others about the wall. It's really distracting to the eye. I suggest that you change it to one solid color, or at the very worst add a border of a different color at the top or bottom.

Other than that everything seems quite solid.

Umm yeah... Also I think move the window up a little bit.

New set from my upcoming film.

What do you think?

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Looks pretty nice! If you have any gray cheese slopes, I'd suggest sticking those around on the walls and ground for a nice look. I do that quite a bit.

i like it

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

So, with my major project out of the way, I'm open to just animate whatever.
Which happens to include a bit at the Library. Thing is, I'm having trouble getting a good look for the books on the shelves. Here are the plain shelves, and two ideas I had. The first one doesn't look 'book-y', but gets the right light/shadow effect, and the second is just plain bad. Most of the books are tan in the show, but I forgot that when I was building the thing, so I took a picture of that, and doing so may be the way to go. Also, see my photobucket for more details.
Any help here guys?

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

The ground pieces seem a tad bit dusty. You might want to do something about that. As for the books on the bookshelves, I do know that many people use 2x1 or 2x2 flat piece and stand them up (kinda like the third picture but closer together) as books on a bookshelf.

Yes, that looks pretty nice, I think the best example is Legoanders "Librarian":

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

I was always bothered by this episode, and not because of the vashta-narada, it was because of the green wall behind the shelves. What is that supposed to be? Is it a green screen that they lit the wrong way, or was the set designer just REALLY uncreative? I can't sit still looking at it. mini/confused However, great job replicating it.

Can I suggest you dust off the bricks on the floor? (If you we already going to do that, never mind then. mini/tongue)

no more brickfilming *sad face*.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

You need to be precise with the lighting so you don't accidentally give people 2 shadows.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Well, seeing as I have less than twenty four hours until I leave for college, I'm not sure I have the time to re-do this scene. In fact, I filmed it late the other night and took down the set. As is, the footage looks just about like that third frame.

Still not dusted, dunno why. I'm an idiot I guess. (Well, pretend it's because the Library has been sealed up for so long.) I was either too lazy to get the dusting rag, or too tired to think straight, been staying up really late to finish all my projects. Overall I did terrible at following your feedback. Sorry.

@LASF, I've done book shelves like that before, but don't have enough tan tiles to make it look filled up. and didn't want to get into multi-colored-ness.
@Pushover, Huh, I love this episode for several reasons, and the green walls have never really bothered me.
@Masterlego, I was wanting to try a clip like that, but time is not on my side, so it had to be abandoned.

Gotta say as a side-note, using the cape as a 'flowing-overcoat' worked fairly well. Would have been better with a short brown cape, but all mine are new stiff ones that I didn't want to mess up.

Get ready for something that will blow your mind-hole! Just kidding, although I am pretty proud of it.

This shot is a little bit blurry. I was sort of in a hurry to upload some snaps. The rest are fine.

His name is Ryujin, and he's the dragon-god of the sea in Japanese mythology. Not saying much about what he's for, though.

It took me an afternoon to build him, and I'm pretty pleased. I have one complex vfx shot that I want to try, but if it works, then I'm going to continue with this project. It's actually an old project that I started a long time ago but never finished. I haven't been able to animate in ages as I've spent my whole summer either working or on holiday (not that I'm complaining about the latter) but I really need to get something substantial out. One of the guys at work says I really need to update my showreel, and he's right - it's two years old now.

Anyway, I'll post the finished test in WIP and Tests when it's done/if it's good enough to post, but that'll be at least a few weeks. I have to focus on my Film Studies practical coursework first.

Re: Sets and Props Critique Thread

Wibbley-wobbley, timey-wimey, bumpity-bump...

I spent a lazy productive afternoon build a LEGO version of the TARDIS:

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7441/9741507573_fa0598df4e.jpg

I'm remarkably pleased with how it turned out, though there are a few inaccuracies (such as the lack of writing at the top) I think it's the the closest I could come.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7338/9741507679_9128d00816.jpg

The back.  Nothing too exciting going on here.  You can also see I ran out of white 1x2 grilles (though I probably have a few in my unsorted bins yet) so I had to resort to using a few grey ones...

Now I just need to master the art of Trans-Dimensional Engineering to make this bigger on the inside.... or just add some working doors.

I also built minifig versions of a few characters from Doctor Who.  See if you can guess Who they are! mini/wink

Brilliant! I will have to copy this design.

Left to right: 9th doctor, Rose Tyler, 10th doctor, Jack Benny with a fez (or maybe the 11th doctor), and some companion with brown hair.
