I agree...I avoid using all transitions except for the fade in, fade out and pretty much all fading ones.

other creative transitions are cool other then fading like if a wall got destroyed and you could make a piece fly at the camera and use that for a transition

That is very true...

Just don't use the default settings at all. This means, no Ken Burns effect, none of that obnoxious fade in fade out title with a black stroke around the white text. None of those stupid pre-made trailers that come with iMovie 11.

I've always tried to keep to this type of thinking when editing. Thanks for making light of this.

Re: Editing Mistakes to Avoid!

All advice should be taken with an open mind, also none of it is obviously 100% true all the time. George Lucas used some crazy transitions to give Star Wars a retro feel, like Flash Gordonand other '30s serials. (One of the few things he dun right)

So yeah there is a time and place for everything, but were all speaking from experience (and opinion). Yes, even comic sans ms has a place in the universe. It's very small though mini/wink

Re: Editing Mistakes to Avoid!

I used a lot of cut to black in my film. I think it illustrated time staying consistent or something. But theres a lot i need to work on.
