Very insightful review. Seriously.

Having never read the original material, nor having even heard of it before the trailers came out a few months ago I went into this movie without any major expectations.

I can sum it up as "the movie that does not go anywhere". The only interesting character gets killed for no discernible reason, the guy I wanted to die lived happily ever after, they have a character who is immortal and has super powers while the others are "cops in costumes" and most of the characters have the emotional responses of a plank of wood. The guy that owned the dogs was the only character that conveyed any convincing emotion.

I second that the "hallelujah" bit was over the top. It was meant to be an emotional scene of intimacy. I found it to be a totally inappropriate musical choice since it made the scene into a farce and that it hit all the wrong emotional queues. And a lot of the violence was excessive. The alley scene with the arm-breaking - wtf? Okay, super-heroes getting mugged and then beating up the muggers is amusing. Doing massive physical trauma and permanent, debilitating injuries to random strangers when they could have just beat them down? That kinda puts them on the other end of the moral compass.

And there was either too much wang or not enough. If Dr Manhattan is going to run around naked, then he should either always be naked ("What do I care for modesty") or he should always be dressed (in either his suit or thong). Having him alternating between being uptight and swinging free detracted from the film. Supposedly, in the comic he gets less and less interested in being "human" but the film does not portray this. It is random, and nobody ever says "put some pants on".

Maybe I'm just missing a lot of information that made the comic awesome that didn't make it into the movie, but the impression that I got was of a flat narrative where the viewer has no real connection with the characters, hence does not care if they live or die or save the day or end up in a retirement home. Except the ginger - he was cool.

Smile and say hello to people. It costs you nothing and can brighten their day.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I agree with you about the violence, but I somehow found the film to be rewarding as a whole, despite narrative unevenness. It was certainly entertaining for me.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

About Dr Manhattan and wearing clothes.

Spoiler (click to read)

In the comic he has just a full suit and with the years he narrowd it down to just an underpants and then he just went of naked.

and THAT character actually dies for a reason you know mini/tongue

But I agree on the Halllelujah score.

And I agree to there was a little to much violence while it is much lesser in the comic.

They probably did that for some of  the Non watchmen readers.

Taken

Wow, that was really good. It could have been longer and I would have liked to see more of a twist in the plot near the end, but overall it was very well done.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I've heard that Taken shamelessly exploits Euro-phobic clichés, is that true?

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Race To Witch Mountain
Good, but nothing special. The highlight of the movie was definitely the trailer of Up before the film started. The greatest disappointment of the film was definitely the trailer of Monsters vs Aliens which I thankfully missed half of.

Watchmen
Woah...
It was amazing. The visuals were fantastic, the story was very well executed, the casting was perfect, the music was well chosen, and it was just really, really, really good. Although there was more violence than in the comic, it kinda fitted with the overall mood of the film. I also thought that when it ended I felt a lot better than when I finished reading the book. It was just... wow.

Finding Nemo

Really Fisshually a beautiful film

It's one of those typical sad story's but it was GOOD.

Another great creation by pixar mini/smile

The Incredibles

Wauw, this movie had something from every superhero related stuff.

from "Watchmen" to "X-Men"

I saw this one in theatre and it's a trilling experience.

I went to see it with my school (it was "Sinterklaas" day for the little kids so...)

and when this movie was done everybody was applauding and cheering for like minutes, it was awesome

There was definatly put a  lot of effort in this film

Actually, that scene was supposed to highlight his erectile dysfunction.  The scene is actually very funny, and it should be.  The flamethrower bit?  Yyyyeah, that represents some other dysfunction.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

How does it highlight that? I definitely got the flamethrower bit... talk about brick-in-the-face symbolism.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Well, it's obvious that he has it, and that people know.  He says "give me a few minutes" to Silk Spectre, and Rorschach later says to him "You've gone soft on criminals, and on women."  Using "Halllelujah" during the sex scene just enunciates how terribly awkward Dan is with women, and with everyone, not only because of his personality, but because of his dysfunction.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Ah, yeah, I get that now, haha.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Oh ok.

Although it still doesn't feel right the song in the scene, probably because I love the Jeff Buckley version and it's weird hearing it differantly and In a sex scene.

Burn After Reading

I actually loved this. Brad Pitt was hilarious in this film. mini/lol I didn't like the ending too much though.

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride

A tad boring, but animation. It's pretty funny how the underworld is a lot more colorful and exciting than 'Upstairs'.

Wallace and Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

Loved it, as I love all of the W&G films. So much sexual innuendo and humor in a G-rated film.

Loved that movie.  Brilliant work.  I personally adored the ending.  It totally wrapped up the audience's "wtf" feeling at the end, and made it clear that you don't need to have a plot that wraps itself up perfectly every time in order to make a good movie.
