Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to use those techniques and more whenever possible, but for shots using camera movement in particular it becomes difficult and sometimes impossible to do it without physical models in-camera.
That is actually possible, since it has been done by our studio (meaning my brother 
). It did take a lot of work though for him to get it to the point that it is impossible to tell it is not real, but he is extremely good at CG and the like.
But I do agree, the use of real legos is much better than trying other things, since you don't have to spend days trying to make it look real. Plus it is so much nicer to have physical sets to work with.
Good luck with the Kickstarter; you always make amazing videos, so I am looking forward to this with much anticipation.
