I'm not sure where you got the 1.2 million statistic, but only five thousand were ever produced. Sorry, bad luck.

I'm really interested in your motivations for this. Why do you want a Mr. Gold so badly?

NO!  I spent $0 on the minifigures.  Their retail value was $713.  I just spent a few hours feeling and writing bump codes down.

We had four boxes (4x60 = 240)

Haha, I looked yesterday too and there were only 4 bags there. 2 baseball fielders and two motorcycle mechanics. I grabbed one of each.

At LEGOLAND, I saw a 3-tier tub of minifigures and I thought to myself "I bet, there's at least one Mr. Gold in there."

So I began feeling the bags, The first tier had been previously checked by someone, so I started feeling the second tier with no luck. The 3rd-tier didn't show much hope as it was mostly Baseball Players and Skydivers; but I was determined to find Mr. Gold. I had about 20 minifiures left on the third tier, when a kid about the same age as me walked up and started feeling the minifigures as well. there were about 10 minifigures left when all of the sudden he paused in mid-sentence and said "Oh my gosh, I think I just found him." He then spent a couple more seconds feeling the bag and then literally ran to cash register.

As I predicted, there was a Mr. Gold there, I just wasn't fortunate enough to get it.

I was specifically seking a real one.  By the way, IIRC, news analyst Michelle Malkin said that the 1st thing she'd do with a 3D printer is make unlimited Legos [sic].

Yeah.  I've been looking all around the area and surrounding areas.  Fortunately, I've only purchased 17 series 10 so far, and have every one, with only one double: the Trendsetter.
