Topic: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

I've just launched a Kickstarter campaign for my latest Brickfilming project, Melting Point. Check out the Kickstarter page for more info:

Any contribution, however small, would be incredibly helpful. Even if you can't contribute, it'd mean the world to me if you could share this with anyone you know who might be interested. Thanks!

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

I'll get my parents to donate in my name. Glad to help out.

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

I'll definitely donate! This looks to be an awesome film.

I do have one question though. In your description on the Kickstarter page, it says you wish to be able to send this film to festivals so it can be eligible for an Academy Award. I think this is super cool, but would that be allowed by the LEGO Group? As in, you using their product to win a major awards show. Or would they just not do anything about it? I'd really like to know.

Youtube @TheRealSonjira I consider it a personal defeat if my pee is not perfectly clear every time.]

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

I'm thinking I'm going to create a Kickstarter account so I can contribute to this, I'd really like to see another long film from you. mini/smile

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

The fact that you created animation just for the Kickstarter campaign merits attention and pledges.

I agree.
I really wish I had enough money to help back this.  But my funds are limited, and I need them for my own films.

It's good to see someone trying to win an Oscar with a brickfilm.  I've thought it would be really cool if someone actually did that.  Brickfilms can be really great, and I think it's totally possible.
I actually find Zombies: Genesis more enjoyable than most of the Oscar winning shorts I've seen, so it doesn't sound at all beyond the reach of possibility.

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

This looks really good, your Kickstarter movie was awesome, and would have got me to donate if my life didn't require most my income. I sure hope you get the funds, and it would be incredibly cool if a brickfilm like yours would win an Oscar. Good luck. mini/wink

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

I like the Kickstarter pitch. Talking on camera like that, AS YOURSELF, is the hardest thing ever to me (just did it yesterday for my upcoming Kickstarter) and I think you did a good job with the video.

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

This looks like it's going to be amazing.  Sadly, my funds are rather limited as of now, so unfortunately I won't be able to contribute.

The kickstarter video was very entertaining.  I must say, though, that your use of CGI is highly impressive and I think that it's some of the best I've ever seen in brickfilms.  And good luck with going for the Oscars!  As Squid said, with films like Zombie: Genesis, I think you stand a good chance of success.  (What about copyright, though?)

By the way, is the film itself sci-fi or does it take place in "today's" world?  And, is it just me, or does Duman look a bit like Ogel from LEGO's old Alpha Team theme?

Anyway, I'm really excited for this.  Will it eventually be available on YouTube?  Also, if you by any chance need voice actors, I'd love to help out.  (Sorry about all the questions, by the way. mini/wink )

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

Was I the only one who though of Zombies: Genesis when reading the bit about building a city instead of using CGI? mini/lol

Watch the kickstarter video! He actually acts out that scene himself in it. Really great touch.

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

I might donate something (I don't have a lot of money, nor do I have a job), just so I can see this exciting project come to life! mini/smile

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

The last time I donated to a kickstarter for a Brickfilm, I was thoroughly disappointed. *Flashback* I was stupid, thirteen, and was mowing lawns for a living (last summer) Made about $100. And here comes SUMKID101 with his Kickstarter for his Brickfilm with some title that began with a V. Being seduced by his awesome rewards (A personal shout out video on his channel, a poster, DVD, and "a special thanks") I donated 100 dollars. Stupid me, I know. *Flashforward* In the end I gave up on getting my prizes OR money back. And guess what he didn't even finish the project! Nor did he ever apologize. is may just sound like a bunch of ranting to you guys. But to me.... I'm a fourteen year old out 100 bucks.

So anyways I'd love to donate to this project, and I might. But if I do, It won't be much.

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

That's terrible, co0lwill. But ultimately it's up to the integrity of the person making the project, not Kickstarter, as to whether or not the film will be completed on time. It's frustrating that kids come along like that and ruin it for the rest of us, starting a crowdfunding campaign is definitely not something to be taken lightly.

Looks like that particular project was on IndieGoGo, though. If I were in your spot, I'd probably continue to hassle the guy about getting your money back.

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

Ah yes, that's what I meant, IndieGoGo. And I wasn't blaming the website at all if that's what you were thinking. I think they are a great way to build small businesses or goals.

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

Naw, I know. Just irritated that there are brickfilmers out there cheating people via Crowdfunding. mini/confused You should ask the guy about it and see if you can get a refund, if you haven't already.

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

I did try, but never got a response. I was important to him at the time but I guess he forgot 'bout lil ol' me.
The worst part is though, his newspaper wrote about how he was working on the project and mentioned that he made over 150 dollars! "Wow!" And I was like yelling at my computer screen saying "80% PERCENT OF THAT IS FROM ME AND I DIDN'T GET ANYTHING!" mini/lol

But anyways, this thread is about the film. Not my rant.

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

It sounds very promising and I wish you the best (the poster is gorgeous), but I can't help to think that creating an entire city out of Lego bricks is a bit overkill. If the city is just there for spectacle and the wow-factor, I see a lack of reason in why you could not be a little more ingenuitive and just use some masking/duplicating or clever forced perspective. Just thought I'd put it out there.

But again, I do wish you the best, and if I did have money, let alone PayPal, I'd donate to your cause! Good luck.

Re: Melting Point Kickstarter Campaign

Thanks for the support everyone!

If anything I'd think it would be promoting their product. I know others, such as Sméagol, have taken Brickfilms to film festivals and I don't think have had any problems, but the Academy Awards would be rather different. If it comes to that, I'm sure I'll find out though.

Thank you! I'm glad to hear that.

Thanks. I didn't find it easy either, and I had to do 10-15 takes of every one of my lines, then refilm all of them the next day, before I had something I was happy with.

As to the setting of the film, I'd rather not give anything away just yet. Duman's look is definitely inspired by Ogel, yeah. The film will be available on YouTube after it's played at film festivals. Thanks for the voice acting offer! I've already completed all the voice recording, though.

I appreciate that. Your story is pretty sad... I can promise you that won't happen with this project.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to use those techniques and more whenever possible, but for shots using camera movement in particular it becomes difficult and sometimes impossible to do it without physical models in-camera.
