Topic: BiM Community idea! Let's do this!

I've been here for one year.  Over the course, I've been helped by many, a good number whom I don't see here any longer.  The forums seem to be more sparsely populated with comments.  I've seen people join more recently, but I'm saddened to see slow movement on these once-vibrant forums.  I have an idea that could renew interest in Bricks In Motion.

First, I tell people who express interest in brickfilming here.  I don't know who, if any, came here because of it.  Hopefuly, someone joined because of my advice.  Spread the word.

Now the idea: People who find our videos on YouTube and wherever they are posted do so because they like Lego animation.  So why they are there, why don't we each make a short (like 30 second) animation promoting Bricks in Motion and post it to our video page?  Imagine these all over the video sites, and all kinds of brickfilm viewers discovering BiM.

What do you think?  A good idea?

Yes, good idea.
Alternately we could each only animate about 10 seconds, and then string the stuff together as a BiM "super-trailer," and then make a shorter version for people to share on their channels. That would be close to how we promoted "Brickfilming Is Just Awesome/Boom de ah dah."

I really liked the "Behind-the-scenes" feel of "The Day Brickfilms.com Crashed", so animating something in that vein, or line of thought, would be really cool.

It'll just be prone to the usual "Wait forever of those few guys who haven't finished their clips yet", and will also need somebody to organize and put together the clips, as well as figure out the "story" and what each person needs to do.
For that matter, the "story" could be that you want to boost numbers here, and you get others to gather stuff together to make a BiM promo. Essentially, a story of the real event.

I SO wish I had been able to participate in the last community project, so I'm naturally supportive of another one.
If you're willing to host/organize it, I'll participate. But you'll want a few more to confirm before you get things started.

Re: BiM Community idea! Let's do this!

I missed out on Boom de ah dah as it was made just before I started becoming more active on here mini/sad

I'd really be interested in participating in a community project promoting the site, especially if each segment was quite short (due to suffering from severe procrastination issues!).

Just to throw out another suggestion:
Perhaps the project could have an overall title like: 'Why You Should Visit BricksInMotion.com' and that could be interpreted (with the aid of a list of suggestions) seriously or more comically by everyone with 30 second clips for each person that they upload separately and the best 5 - 10 seconds of it get put in a montage video on the WeTheBrickfilmers channel.

It would be fun to see another community project happen. The history in the past seems to be that it works best when the ambition of the project is fairly limited, in particular something where people can each submit segments that serve as little vignettes. That way, if somebody bails, you aren't left unable to finish the film without their segment.

If this idea goes in the direction of a community project, we should continue our discussion here.

Not necessarily? Not to rain on the parade or whatever, but wading through 7 pages of not really related discussion from last year might not be ideal if this is a fresh proposal.

Collaborating is a great idea.  I'd love to be a part of it, and will help out with direction.  But my lack of clarity must have come through.  My idea was to have anyone who wanted to make their own ad independently of each other and therefore having many promos for BiM.  WE can use this thread for brainstorming.

True Smeagol, I was only suggesting to discuss in that thread due to the fact that it is for general community project discussion. I have no problem continuing the discussion here.

That is a great idea, HoldingOurOwn, and I would gladly participate. However, we should probably coordinate a general feel/mood/plot/structure to this so that people aren't making random segments of random, unless of course that is the goal mini/smile

Multiple advertisements... Sméagol, when was BiM founded? If it is close we could release our videos on the same day, really making an impact. Or not. Whatever works mini/smile

Re: BiM Community idea! Let's do this!

I'm chill with this idea. I tried starting (multiple) ideas in that last thread but people didn't really go with it. But people seem to like this one so I'll go along with it.

Re: BiM Community idea! Let's do this!

I'm in.

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: BiM Community idea! Let's do this!

I personally would much rather one community project, than many, semi-related videos. Although you could compromise and make the one big one, but also allow each animator to post just his segment on his channel.

Then you'd have several self-contained videos, all pointing to the mega-community video. Holding gets his ads, I get my big one. Best of both worlds. mini/wink

BiM is six years old now, right? I know the year, just not the date.

Re: BiM Community idea! Let's do this!

You could create a Bricks in Motion YouTube page. That way, all of us members, who wanted to (and being given access to the site, like the password and everything), could upload little advertisements onto the channel.

Re: BiM Community idea! Let's do this!

BiM started in 2008 but the start date is somewhat nebulous given that for a while it was a placeholder blog called ilovebrickfilming.com. I'm not sure when it switched to the BiM domain.

However, there has been a website about LEGO movies called BricksInMotion.com since at least 2001. It was the personal brickfilming site of a brickfilmer named Thomas Foote before he handed it over to us.

Re: BiM Community idea! Let's do this!

If I were to do this I would prefer to upload this on a BIM channel, my channel is for my videos, not for advertising this site. I'd still be happy to contribute though.

There is already one although I don't know if anyone still has access to it. The problem with your idea is that while I'm sure 95% of people on here can be trusted, there is likely to be one person who abuses the privilege of having the password

Don't give everybody the password. Share it with a very small amount of people, and have everyone email things to that person.

Re: BiM Community idea! Let's do this!

Another merge of the two ideas would be that everyone makes there own videos, but someone is in charge of the whole endeavor, keeping it organized; perhaps there could be a list of topics to cover and someone makes a video on each of these topics.

Re: BiM Community idea! Let's do this!

Sweeet...this sounds cool, can't we just give a trusted member the password and then send them our video files....that way they can upload them and not everybody needs to get the password? I also like Backyardlegos idea mini/smile

Re: BiM Community idea! Let's do this!

If someone like MrMingle would like to make a video and not post it on their channel, you can give it to me and I'll post it.
