Topic: Newspaper in Brickfiilm?

Hey BIM community! I just have a short question. I am working on a brickfilm and I need my minifigure to hold a custom newspaper that I have made in MS Word. I need it to be kind of like the one the figure in this brickfilm is holding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdURvqzKVic I don't know how to print it small enough for a minifig to hold. PLEASE HELP! mini/smile

Re: Newspaper in Brickfiilm?

Instead of printing, I suggest superimposing text over the brick in the video.  This idea has nothing to do with the fact that I barely know how to use MS Word.

Re: Newspaper in Brickfiilm?

I wouldn't recommend that, as it will end up looking really flat and two dimensional. And bricks don't much look like magazines. mini/confused
So if you designed the whole thing in MS word, here is what you should do. You should take a screenshot of the newspaper or save it as a .jpg, then drop the image file into another MS word document. From there scale it down to the size you want it as.

Hey thanks topitmunkeydog. I used you're idea, but I don't think HoldingOurOwn was totally off. Superimposing would work, but not for newspaper. Also, I don't have any program that can superimpose.

Re: Newspaper in Brickfiilm?

A 2x2 smooth piece is 1.5cm x 1.5cm to get accurate size just import into Photoshop (gimp) and print. Next just cut it out and stick it to the brick. If your really going for a good effect you could probably spray acrylic or something over it.

Re: Newspaper in Brickfiilm?

Best thing abut ideas is that there is more than one way to solve it.  With photo editors, and more effectively with flash, one can do 2 d and 3d skews of text.  Ive used the technique  myself.

Re: Newspaper in Brickfiilm?

Of course it can work. It's just that it's better to do an effect in camera if you can. It's really hard to get the appropriate shadows, creases, and shapes in post production, and likely it will look like a title superimposed on a brick rather than a magazine. Unless I'm totally not understanding what you are saying lol.

Re: Newspaper in Brickfiilm?

No, I think you're ok.  I prefer in-camera anyway.  But when I superimpose text, I make it about 80% opaque, so that the underlying texture comes through a bit and it looks "printed on", taking care of the above issue of textures.  Sometimes that's not the optimum amount of transparency, as each project is different.  I was just offering an alternate technique that has worked for me, in case it's helpful to someone else reading the forum.
