Topic: DreamWorks' The Croods- Your opinion?

I have had some interest in seeing The Croods in theaters today or tomorrow, but I saw the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes implying that it was just okay. I would really like to hear other people's opinions... anyone?

I thought that when I saw the trailer that it would involve a moral message involving curiosity and how it makes some beings stronger. Is that the case?

Re: DreamWorks' The Croods- Your opinion?

A couple of days ago it had like 87%, now it's like 61% but the movie looks unbelievably awful.

Re: DreamWorks' The Croods- Your opinion?

To me it seems awfully uninspired, as if they are making the film just because they didn't have any other ideas. But then again I feel that way about most CGI films these days.

I didn't think it looked good either. (and that's coming from a writer AND director)

I was starting to get sick of the Ice Age movies, and this looks just as wacky, with a hint of a rip-off! However, especially when it comes to kids movies, have been wrong before.

For instance; Madagascar 3. I thought that a story of talking cgi animals in a circus would just get stupid, however, when you get past the stupidity level, the general plot isn't that bad. Just like the old fables with talking animals, it told a moral lesson.

So, having not actually seen the movie, I cannot say anything for certain. However, compared to something like Star Wars VII, or Man of Steel, the production quality won't be as good in something like this...

Well... looks like Ryan Reynolds chose another bad role (After Green Lantern).

Re: DreamWorks' The Croods- Your opinion?

This isn't a film. This is a Dreamworks film.

I think the problem with these movies (not counting Rise of the Guardians, which was actually quite good) is that Dreamworks pitches their work towards kids by making it animated with talking animals. But, it really masquerades as a poor excuse for a children's film, with it being sprinkled with adult humour. Then, they throw in obnoxious characters so the younger children can imitate them, thus annoying people to kingdom come (how many time did you hear your younger siblings/children sing "I Like To Move It, Move It"?). And then, when the film is released--and becomes a box office failure--they practically hand it over to McDonalds and whatnot, so they can ruin the franchise further by releasing toys.

To sum up, I seriously don't know about The Croods. It looks bad, but don't the other films that are being released this year look awful too?

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: DreamWorks' The Croods- Your opinion?

I totally agree with Mickey. How To Train Your Dragon and Rise of the Guardians are to me the only good Dreamworks films, mostly because of this:

Actually I like Kung Fu Panda too, because Jack Black is extremely talented. But yeah, this film, the Croods, just sounds very crudely put together to me (do you see what I did there.) I'm not looking forward to it at all, I am disillusioned with these kinds of films.

I actually think Over the Hedge was okay, compared to some other Dreamworks movies. But, thanks topit. That's pretty much what I was trying to get at in a nutshell.

Flushed Away and How To Train Your Dragon are in my opinion the best Dreamworks movies (although I haven't stayed up to date with some of them)

Re: DreamWorks' The Croods- Your opinion?

Unfortunately I haven't seen Flushed Away, but I thought that it looked pretty good back when it came out. I just now watched the trailer for it again and I was a bit put off by the animation-- I remembered it being claymation but instead it's just sort of mediocre CGI animation. Of course I am very biased against CGI films, mostly because of all the really bad ones Dreamworks has made.

It was supposed to be claymation but it wasn't very easy to do since water is one of the main things in the film
