Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Shining

Nope. Still don't like it.

Its just....silly. Jack Nicholson is so obviously insane from the moment we first meet him (that smile...oh god, that smile), and any attempt at horror is just hilarious. I've read the passage with the lady in the bath from the original novel, and its haunting in its description. Here, I'm reminded of that scene in Spaceballs where Dark Helmet pretends to be the King ("Would I lie to you?" *looks to the side suspiciously*) but then reveals himself and goes "FOOLED YOU!!"

The sequence with the twins and the climax in the maze are the only parts that genuinely grip me. The rest is either funny or just perplexing. The plot is inviting us to interpret it ourselves, but the whole affair is so silly I can't be bothered and I highly doubt I'll find anything interesting if I do delve deeper.

Amazing, if it's playing at a theater near you - check it out! A beautiful film.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Terminator

I have wanted to see this film since i was ten years old, i finnaly got to see it and....well...it was not what i excpected. I'll admit it is an ok movie but it is not the god of all movies that people make it out to be, people say it revolutionised CGI (i think alot of people get this mixed up with T2) but yet the only real CGI is the laser blasts from the guns and the time portals. What this film does have is an OK story and great action scenes,  the only thing in the movie that made sence to me story or motivationwise was the coming back in time to kill the mother of the leader of the resistance (even though i found flaws in that plan aswell), and

Spoiler (click to read)

the soilder's sudden love for sarah conor i found completly stupid. it makes no sence! he just suddenly falls in love with her and then they start screwing. by the way, to any concerned parents checking this movie out for their child, there are two short sex scenes in the movie that i would skip if i where you, one of them actualy has nudity in it

i'll admit the action was intense and always kept my attention, but the thing in the movie my dad and i found most entertaining about it was laughing at how silly arnold was in it.

Life of Pi (2012)

I finally got around to watching it, along with two of my good friends from my Boy Scout Troop (they also saw The Hobbit with me). It was good, I guess. Some parts (especially towards the end) were slow, but it was a really neat story. I was fascinated with the storyline. I've never seen an Ang Lee film, and there aren't really any that look that good, in my opinion. To sum up, this film is good. Worthy of a few Oscars, but not Best Picture.

From my point of view, Arnold was perfect in The Terminator... Funny, but fantastic mini/wink

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

OZ the great and powerful
I really regretted going to see this even before I entered the theatre because my family decided to go and I told them nooo don't go and they were like we are going to see this bloody movie topit stop being silly. After it was over they wuz like ya you were right about that mini/confused
In all seriousness though, the art design was superb, but everything else was pretty much the worst thing ever. ESPECIALLY the acting. The lady who played the green witch was the worst. Also, me and my uncles who are both avid fans of the original Wizard of Oz were extremely offended when the jerkface main character cut off the ONLY musical number in the whole darn movie. Very much a waste of time. I would have preferred to have seen The Great and Powerful Trixie talk about how great and powerful she is for two hours than watch this again.

The Creeping Terror
This, while horrible, was much better than the above. We watched it to see the world's crappiest monster, according to my uncle. It looks like people under a blanket! Also, try and find music that is more annoying than that in this scene.

I also watched That Darn Cat! which was hilarious but I just don't feel like writing about it right now so sorry mini/confused

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Even the original 1939 version is pretty bad, IMO. It's not very accurate to the book. Where's the dainty china country? Why didn't Oz shapeshift when the foursome visited him? Who are these people, on the farm? Who is this "Mrs. Gulch" lady? I chose to watch the movie before I read the book, and then I realised that the movie wasn't very true to the book.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Mickey... did you just say... that the 1939 Wizard of Oz was... pretty bad? mini/jaw
The Wizard of Oz is a timeless classic in it's own ways. I hate how people always judge a book inspired movie on how accurate it was to the original source material, yes, you should compare it to some extent, but you have to realise that the movie in itself becomes separate progression of the story, so it's bound to be a little different.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Wizard of Oz is a wonderful film.  I love it.  Though it's cheesy when you compare it to modern films, it was pretty amazing for the time when it came out.

Sometimes, I like to appreciate a film for what it is, and not compare it to the book.  I like to think of it as its own story.
I haven't read the book, but I like the film for what it is.

Still, it is old, I can understand why people would dislike it.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Die Hard

Greatest Christmas film ever. Both Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman are awesome in this film, and the action and humour are just brilliant. This is a movie I'd watch over and over again.

If you have seen the movie already and want to be freaked out, watch it with the alternative ending.

Oh god, I saw that a few months ago. I don't actually have the last book from the series, so I've never read it and don't know if the series ends that way. I don't think it does though.

In regards to the Scott Pilgrim thing

Spoiler (click to read)

It ends the same way but of course there is a lot of extra stuff before that. The alternate ending is just so jarring and surprising, that's why I said that.

If you care to know.

Tintin
I watched it again, the Steven Spielberg film. It was pretty good, some moments were amazing. However it felt really sort of relentless, and, while I suppose it was supposed to be a hyperkinetic cartoony action movie like Indiana Jones, it was just kind of tiring to watch at times.
Also, anybody surprised at the lack of female characters in the entire film? Weirdddddd....

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Wreck-It Ralph
Can't believe I hadn't seen this before. It's a great movie!

The Music Man (2003 TV film)

I caught this on TV last week. It's good, and I'm a fan of movie-musicals. And Matthew Broderick can sing good, who knew!

Les Miserables (2012)

I watched it again because I love it so much. The songs are amazing.

Watchmen (2009)

I read the comic book, so I decided I wanted to see how well the movie followed the Comic book. In some places the movie did fairly well, and in others I like the comic book more.

See You After School
Wow, I started this a long time ago and was watched it for fun. Ended up a bit better than I thought it would be. A lot of subtitled swearing though. Funny movie, about a boy and his bad luck and facing the school bully. His ideas and attempts to avoid the fight went all wrong then blam had a fight with the bully. If you're into foreign films it might be worth a watch. Not the best, but a different movie to occupy. mini/smile

Super 8
Maaaaan, that waaaas good. 'Tis about some friends making and shooting a movie for a film contest (the super 8 film contest). An unexpected train crash scares the entire town and stirs up suspicions. This movie was very enjoyable, kept me on the edge of my seat a few times and was filled with some laughs here and there. One of my new favourite movies.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days
I have been reluctant to read the books, mainly because I had no interest in them, but I was pleased with the turn-out of this film. I have only seen this one and the first (Diary of a Wimpy Kid). I do say there was quite a drastic change in the feel of the movie, especially the end. This movie actually had some good morals in it. (What?! Morals from Diary of a Wimpy Kid?! mini/eek) Seriously, surprisingly a good movie.

The second one is much, much better than the first, I found myself laughing my a$$ off at times. I haven't seen the third one yet.

Anyway, just finished Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Extended Edition (2002)

I think my LOTR/Hobbit rankings go like this:
1. TTT
2. Hobbit:AUJ
3. FOTR
4. ROTK

Sure, the CGI is a bit shaky, and by now I've spotted most of the goofs/mistakes, but it's still a great movie and one of my favorites. I did have to split it up half-way though because of the sheer length, but there's nothing wrong about that. The handling of Faramir still annoys me, but the EE bonus scenes help a lot.
Makes me really want to see Hobbit 2.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Selena (1997)

Well, that was good. A little sad towards the end. But, it's cool that she lived right around here in my town. If you don't know, Selena Quintanilla Perez (1971-1995) is a Mexican-American singer who was #1 at the time. She won a few Grammys and was very well known in both the U.S. and Mexico. She only lived to be 24, though.
