Commentary: A splendid entry full of inspiring techniques and ideas! This type of content is exactly what I was looking for. It was fresh and fun. The Swing Step and Telewalk were my favorite's by far. Oh, and the Vampire Walk was a really nice idea, looking forward to seeing this used in Vampire Cinema.

Thanks, Spider! mini/smile

NEXT CHALLENGE:
Camera Movement
Deadline: February 5th
I want to see who can pull off the best moving camera shot. It can be a swoosh, a dolly, or whatever.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Great job everyone, especially Squid!
I know mine wasn't that great, I just wanted to test my camera and I haven't animated for more than 2 months so this was a good chance to just see what happens.

This was very well done, RS.  I really like that you did a quick mini-review of each film, thanks!

EDIT: Gee, that is a completely unexpected topic Squid mini/tongue   I never could have guessed you'd pick that, all things considered.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Congrats to you Squid!

Thanks for the feedback Spider, I definitely agree with the high kick, I know if add just two frames either side of the kick it would look so much nicer. As for the dog one, I had started that idea before seeing McVay's entry and actually thought myself that it looked very similar. Which I was a little disappointed about but hey, as long as it got a laugh, that's what I was after mini/wink

Looking forward to the next challenge Squid. Will have to have a play about!

The greatest of these is Love ... Love never fails.

Re: The Animation Challenge

tenny1028's Entry: The walk cycle present in this entry weren't all that new. The walking in the mud was a interesting idea though. Also, your final side shot of the guy running was a good idea, but his arms were moving much too slowly. If you worked on that shot some, it could be really good!

I think this might be a better one, very similar to the last shot. Walking Test. Note: this is not an entry.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Congrats Squid! (And everybody else of course. mini/wink )

May or may not enter this, depends on how my current projects go.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Hmm, I might give this one a go. I haven't entered an animation challenge in over a year...

Same here I think that it would be beneficial to me if I did enter more often.

You two should, they're always loads of fun. mini/yes

Last time I checked, archived/unreleased footage can be entered, so here's my simply terrible attempt at a one-shot film. It's nothing much, but at least it can serve as an example of what NOT to do. mini/tongue

One Shot to Rule Them All.

In the land of brickfilming, where the TFOLs lie.
One shot to rule them all, One shot to truly fail,
One shot to compare to them all, and make them all look swell.
In the land of brickfilming, where the TFOLs lie.

Hmm, even the poetry is bad... mini/shifty

Commentary: Some more unique and creative walking going on in this entry. I really enjoyed the last one in particular! I can see why someone was reminded of David Pickett. Keep up the nice work. I thought that the Wind-Up Toy cycle was a bit too similar to Squid's "Swing Step" however. It was a little different though, with a more exaggerated motion.

Thanks for the in depth analysis, Spider. I was kind of worried when I saw Squid's swing step, but oh well. By the way, it's thedoorwaystudio, not plural. Haha, so many people make that mistake. mini/smile

Did you have anything in mind? Its a lot easier if you're more specific, but whatever. Good challenge idea. TOTALLY didn't see it coming mini/wink

LEGOs, Soccer, Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream and other completely irrelevant things.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Probably because everyone saw Topit suggest it, and I agree to use that challenge. xD

Basically, anything, just make it interesting.

The Profession has some pretty amazing in shot camera movement.

Sounds good. The Profession is a great film, definitely one of my favorites.

You could always try building a rig or a track, for dolly shots, out of Legos and Technic parts.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Hey all,

I'm not going to have much time this week, but I still wanted to enter. I tossed this together real quick.

I know I said I would enter the last one but never did, Well, I'm really planning to enter this one!

Re: The Animation Challenge

YES!

I'm so gonna enter this.
I think I'll do some tracking and point-of-view stuff.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

One Shot to Rule Them All.

The animation is stunning, but you can't enter the challenge with this video... I'm sorry mini/sad

If you don't have a deadline to animate it, then it becomes unfair to anyone who wants to enter.

Actually, the rule in question exists. Someplace.
If you just happen to have something which you haven't released and it fits you can enter it.
It just has to be unreleased.

So, that will never be finished? mini/sad
I think it should, even if you have to cut the shot. It's impressive.

Re: The Animation Challenge

Well, the last time the issue was brought up, nobody corrected me when I said it could.

The linked-to post says that it has been discussed a number of times, but I can't find where any real, concrete rule was ever made. The first post doesn't address the issue, and up until now, no one had told me any differently.

If ya'll do agree to disqualify it, that's fine.
Let's just make that clear, and put it in the first post so others can easily find it. mini/wink

EDIT: ANP beat me to it.

The video will probably remain unfinished. The set/camera angle that it ends on would be hard to replicate, and I've got other, more interesting, projects in line to be animated. (If I did finish it, it would remain a one-shot.)

EDIT #2: I searched all through this thread, and every discussion on the topic that I could find ended in a
"Yes, as long as it hasn't be released" answer. The only hard rule on the matter is that previously released clips cannot be entered, and that was from Fancypants himself. (If the posts I found are correct.)
