Topic: make it easier to post images

its honestly really confusing

eh i got nothing

Re: make it easier to post images

Why? BBCode works perfectly fine, and if you're not using IE (IE has a fair share of post glitching on BiM) you just need the image url (which is just two clicks) then just paste 'em and click on the little image icon (or if you memorized all the code like me just by adding the raw code). If you still don't understand it just click on the little image link when you're posting. The Bricksinmotions guide also has an excellent tutorial. I agree though, at first it takes a bit of getting used to, but just experiment a bit by randomly posting and clicking preview (and not submitting the post unless it actually helps the community or you fully understand the bbcode since getting it wrong can lead to some silly situations or worse, accidental image spam).

This is just my 2 cents (this expression is used here right? mini/wink ).

Re: make it easier to post images

If you have a suggestion how we could make it easier to post images, let us know. Otherwise, there's not really much to  do here but point out that the process for posting images is similar to just about every other BBCode-based forum out there and point you to [guide].

Basically, you'll need to post an image to an image-sharing site such as Flickr, Photobucket, or imgur and then link to the image file using the forum tags. Make sure you're linking to the actual image file (you may need to click through a couple of times) instead of the photo page. The link should end with an image extension such as .jpg, .gif, or .png, not .html or otherwise.

The code will end up looking like this:

[img]www.example.com/example.png[/img]

If you want to add a link to this image, it will end up looking like this:

[url=www.example.com][img]www.example.com/example.png[/img][/url]

Re: make it easier to post images

I was going to explain how to post images and then whine about how your signature misspells T.S. Eliot and misquotes his poetry, but Jargon has done a good job of the former without being rude and snarky about it like me.

As the others have said, image posting here works like it does on nearly every other forum. We don't allow users to upload images within the post so you do have to use a third party image host like Imgur, but the problem with allowing image uploads is it eats a lot of bandwidth and hosting space, which would ultimately slow down the site's performance.

Re: make it easier to post images

I have to agree with brick arms, it is kinda confusing.

Re: make it easier to post images

But it makes the most sense once you get used to it.

Re: make it easier to post images

All you have to do is upload your image somewhere, put the URL in a post, and highlight the URL then click the little image icon above the text box (looks like a picture of some mountains). Short of image attachments, which have a lot of downsides in terms of performance and integration into your post, it could not be much simpler.

It's how image posting on forums works, this is a fairly standardized system. Like how streets and traffic signs work, or how you address an envelope.

Re: make it easier to post images

If you can't grasp using img tags then you shouldn't be on the internet.

Re: make it easier to post images

I gotta agree. It's not that hard nor is it very time consuming, it's fine the way it is.

Re: make it easier to post images

Oh, the strain of learning a few little pieces of BBCode!

Re: make it easier to post images

You people are lucky you don't have to write HTML codes just to post an image.

Re: make it easier to post images

If you use Flickr to host your images it will do the BBcode for you, I don't have an issue with BBcode but I'll take shortcuts when offered.

Re: make it easier to post images

Kids these days , don't know how to do coding or any other System they use , they just ask for an adult to do it and they don't know how. mini/lol

Re: make it easier to post images

please dont insult me

eh i got nothing

Re: make it easier to post images

No one's insulting you - it's just a bunch of old internet geriatrics musing about how we never really had much trouble with this stuff when we were younger (in fact it was more difficult for most of us) and those of use that did have trouble just learned to use the techniques available.

It's really quite simple.

1) Upload your image to a free image hosting site, like imgur. Just click "Upload from computer" and follow the prompts.
2) Copy the field that says "direct link" (or copy the field that says BBCode, if you do this skip step 4)
3) Paste the copied text into your message on Bricks In Motion.
4) Put IMG tags around it, like so:

[img]http://i.imgur.com/NIFocSE.jpg[/img]

Alternatively, you can post an image from another website just by right clicking on it and selecting "copy image url" (or similar, this may vary from browser to browser). Then proceed with step 3.

And you're done. That will now display your image, easy as pie.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to grumble about kids who complain about easy things.

Ah yes, I forgot to mention this. Imgur also gives you this option. It's a great site to host images that you don't really care about archiving.
