Topic: Video editor that's good for transition FX

I was looking either for a video editor that can do this, or a vegas plugin, or a resource for any other free Vegas plugin.

Re: Video editor that's good for transition FX

All video editors are capable of the best type of transition. The humble cut. Seriously, don't overdo transitions. It's the easiest way to ruin the tone of a film.

What type(s) of transition(s) are you specifically looking for?

I'd agree with this.

Though, a simple fade transition is also nice at times, as is a fade to black.

The fanciest transition I do is making the edges get darker when I fade to black (as can be seen in just about every film I made last year).

A lot of people sometimes use really goofy over the top transitions which look absolutely awful in any context.
For some reason, a lot of editing softwares are just jammed with those sorts of transitions. I have no idea why they do that.

The only sort of unusual transitions that I like are the type used in Star Wars and perhaps a few others.

I agree. Especially those WMM video productions... (shivers)

I totally agree with you.  I actually made a conscious decision in my Lego series to restrict all my transitions to the cut, the dissolve/fade, and on special occassions, a linear wipe.

The transitions I'm looking for are for a non-Lego project for a slide-show type video accompanying one of my new songs.  Here is a video on Youtube that uses the type of effects I'd like to achieve:

By the way, this girl is an AWESOME trumpet player!  Enjoy her song.  Fun fact: one of the characters, played by my friend, Mike, will be humming the chorus to this song in Holding Our Own: episode 2.

Looks like something you could do with slideshow software, such as Apple's Keynote app (which can export to video). Otherwise you could mix and create the effects/transitions manually using something like After Effects or Premiere Pro.

Adobe After Effects can be on either system. Just be sure to download the right version.

Re: Video editor that's good for transition FX

Adobe's suites are cross platform between Windows and OSX. You can download a trial of it (which lasts 30 days, enough time for you to do your transition work) by going to the product's page here and clicking "try" on the side, underneath the "buy" button.
