Topic: Post Your Variation of Transportation (DIY & discussion)

Highres pictures below. Can't really do a lot about it if you have a 56kb connection, sorry!

Let's see how this'll go.
So it's pretty basic. Got a car? Post it! Got a bike, scooter, something that moves and it's on wheels? Post it, boast about it! Tell the fascinating people of BiM why you love your vehicle.

Here's my beauty. Got it back home Wednesday, have had no problems yet with it. However there is a lot of stuff that needs doing, will post some of it below. Anyways, no good OP without pictures!

A neat and tidy Mercedes Benz 280 SE, the 2.8l straight six W108 (M130 engine) model. It looks pretty neat and tidy, however there is quite some stuff that needs doing. Mainly and plainly, the seats are pretty bust. There's a hole in the driver seat and the rear-sofa needs doing (been roasting in the sun since 1970, so the stitching in the top of the sofa has gone, seen in this pic:

That'll be pretty expensive to get right, because I can only do car stuff that doesn't include sewing and such.
Then there's the chrome that needs a bit of doing. You won't see it before you go close, got an example here:

See that's from up above. Seems fine, the chrome looks shiny and not too tired. However, when I zoom in, you'll see quite some tiredness in the chrome.

It's like that all over the car, really. Going to be pretty hard to get it done within my budget.

Then there's stuff like the cold-start valve leaking fuel a bit. It's nothing major but enough to make the car shake and the RPM's go up and down a bit when it's starting up cold. Seems fine when it's been running for 10 minutes or so though.

Now post your vehicles! I'll probably be posting some pics and such yesterday when I've washed and polished the whole car. I'll hopefully also fix the ventilation button and the actual ventilation pipes sometime tomorrow.

Was out at Strandvejen with Helmut today (car's called Helmut, long story). Took a trip to grandfather first, he had no idea I had bought the car so he looked pretty shocked. Loved it though, he had some W123's and W124's back in the day.

Anyhow washed and cleaned Helmut today. Also vacuum-cleaned the seats and the floormats. Looks a lot cleaner now.

Then as said, a trip by grandfather and then back home by Strandvejen (for people who don't know, Strandvejen is a long road by the shore with lots of expensive houses, and due to that, lots of old / expensive cars driving around).

Then on the last stretch of Strandvejen, there's this tiny hotel that looks huge on distance but is sort of like a shrinked in house when you get closer. However it's really neat. There's always a couple of classic cars parked infront of the hotel, since the owner and his wife both drive classics. As soon as we parked the car, the owner ran out and was hugely excited about it. We had been there ~2 months ago, were I also talked about the old Benz and that I'd might buy one. He still remembered that, and he absolutely loved the car. Parked it where a 190SL parked when were there last time, sadly don't have a picture of it but it was beautiful.
Cars also go over the curb and pass slowly by because they want to look at the classic cars that are always parked infront of the hotel (like the Audi in the picture). They change a bit around every day or so. The owners explanation of why there's always some classic car parked infront of the hotel is "we get a lot of special people and special people always own a special car of some sort, usually a classic one". He was really nice, explained some stuff about my car that I did not actually know.

The Chevrolet's his, the small Fiat is his wife's. Then there's my Benz in the foreground. mini/smile

It's also pretty fascinating, because when you park it for a short while, people will come up and ask you questions or compliment about it. This guy, possibly in his mid 60's walked up and tried to guess the age / model of it. He got pretty close, believed he thought it was a 220 SE from the late 60's, early 70's (mine is a 280 SE from 1970, so pretty close. only difference is the engine, pretty much).

This is my beloved Bridgestone Anchor, perhaps the nicest bike in my fleet. The frame is a Keirin frame from Japan and the lug work and overall craftsmanship of the frame is incredible. I built the frame up with the nicest parts from America and Japan (primarily Nitto & Sugino from Japan, and Thompson and Phil Wood from the states) and weighs roughly 17 lbs, which is incredible considering it is an all steel bike.

It is currently set up for street riding with breaks and riser bars so I can deal with the hills and sudden stops of city traffic.

That has to be the greatest bike I've ever seen in my life. Never seen anything like it where I live.
