Re: YouTube

I love when sites update because, and let's be honest, if you were to look at YouTube's design from 5 years ago, you would hate it. Most of the time, these updates are well thought out greatly improve the functionality of the site and the appearance.

YouTube, change your design as much as you want, but don't remove key features. What the heck happened to "sort results"? I mean, that is a pretty big issue in my eyes. Not to be able to view uploads by date or views... it is insane!

Re: YouTube

I have gotten somewhat used to the new design, but I hope they continue to work with it. On another topic, my action film RENO: Hostage Issues was featured in an IndyMogul Moguler Made episode. mini/smile Really happy about that. A first for me.

Sweet! How exactly does one go about posting films to get picked? (I've been needing an excuse to actually do a bit of live-action).

It used to be submitted through the site, but it appears that they have taken it down and redirects to the youtube channel... Hope that doesn't mean they are winding down.

Re: YouTube

Well, I'm back.

As far as YouTube goes, I'll probably be slowing down the brickfilming thing and moving towards game commentary.
Be assured, I will not be quitting entirely, but you won't see as many brickfilms from me in the near future.

Don't worry, I'm not actually leaving mini/smile

Re: YouTube

Can I just ask what the hype is about gaming videos? I'm not really a gamer myself, more into vintage/retro stuff, but why has that style of video become so popular? Whether it's commentary, trolling, or whatever... I don't see the point really. Someone explain.

Re: YouTube

The reason for Video Game commentary becoming so popular at the moment is because of, as I see it, the enormous success of Gaming channels on YouTube, such as Pew Die Pie, Yogscast, Captain Sparklez, and Game Grumps(Represent). While this isn't the case for everyone, many people see those channels and decide that they think it would be a cool thing for them to do to, as those people get millions of views a month, and consequently make thousands of dollars on ad revenue.

I personally have contemplated starting my own gaming channel with some friends, but I've decided to put School, Brickfilming, and Boy Scouts (I'm getting super close to Eagle) in higher priority.

Re: YouTube

Yah, there are some really entertaining people on YouTube doing the gaming, I'm personally a huge fan of the Yogscast, and these people are really successful and have a great time doing it. It's inevitable that people are going to try to do the same thing because it looks like fun and some people are successful doing it. That's how I got into brickfilming; I saw some stuff by Fancypants, SpaztikChuwawa, etc. and thought "Hey, that looks like fun, and I have lots of LEGO and a DSLR, so why not?" It's a general trend, if someone is successful and having fun to boot, people will emulate that. mini/smile

I think you just answered your own question.

Re: YouTube

I personally don't like walkthroughs, but commentaries done by such people like CaptainSparklez or SkitScape are often fun to watch since the people making these commentaries are usually pretty cool people and it's entertaining to see them fail or just do all sorts of things.

Right, true enough, but by that logic, wouldn't that being saying that someone who doesn't necessarily care for LEGO wouldn't like a brickfilm? Doesn't seem to be the case.

Re: YouTube

I personally think the Video Game Commentary is already tired. 'Lets Play' videos have been around for years, and after watching so many people yell obscenities when they die, criticise the game whenever it requires you to perform any task other than "shoot everything in the room", call the game unfair when the difficulty goes anywhere above 'beginner', and say helpfully "that was awesome" after an awesome moment (just to check that our eyes are still working) - it gets old. Whenever I watch a commentary now, its just for walk-through purposes.

This being said, I've always wanted to do a deadpan commentary on games that are supposed to inspire strong reactions like 'Slender' ("oh, no - he's going to kill me with analogue TV static. The worst kind of static") or 'Amnesia' ("I wonder if I can say hello to these horrifically mutilated zombies *gets killed* Well that was rude"). Just to try and breathe some new life into it all...

Re: YouTube

Max, I'd love to see that. As for I, I have not really been found watching many Let's Plays, but straight up gameplay and  some commentaries. I truly think it depends on the commentator and game. I've been enjoying some great and entertaining TF2 commentaries. Usually for information, but then I get that one commentator that is funny, informative, and very easy to keep up with. That being Niichts (STAR_). I'm not quite sure anyone would just like a commentator instantly unless they understand the game they are commentating on, etc.

Max, do that series. Now. Please. mini/lol

Not necessarily. There's a kind of novelty to watching LEGO men move around, and it allows for greater creativity since one can do practically anything with the medium. So, in that sense, brickfilms have more of a potentially wider appeal. With gaming videos, you don't have quite the same freedom for creativity, so it would really only hold appeal for people interested in watching gameplay.

That said, there are some worthwhile game-related channels and videos out there, you just need to know where to look.

What the heck?  I really don't like this...

Re: YouTube

How come?? It's not that big of a deal really. It's just another step in Google's plan to standardize all of their platforms. Besides, I usually am logged in on my personal computer so I don't actually have to sign in every time.

Re: YouTube

I am so angry. That little thing kinda pushed me over the limit. What are they trying to do, turn youtube into a freaking social network site? Of course this may have been coming because of the influx of stupidity that they have been receiving in past years. I am going to revive my Vimeo account and start posting things there, although I am going to continue posting on Youtube because my meager following resides there mini/cat

ugh... Pretty soon it's going to be required to link it with Google+... and then no more usernames. At least it is not linked with my main Google+, instead it is linked to my brickfilming account.
