Topic: HeliumFrog Problem

Recently I've been having a problem when I try to animate using HeliumFrog. I've seen that other people have had this problem, but none of the solutions worked for me. Every time I open the program, then try to take a picture, this message pops up:

I cannot open the .AVI for playback

Then another message:

HeliumFrog has encountered a problem.

                                                  [Just Quit]

What I've tried is moving the actual program to the Desktop, then using just a shortcut. The only other solution I could find was switching from Windows 7 to XP, but I don't really want to go that route. mini/tongue

Does anyone else have ideas?

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

Go to the folder or whatever has the application file in. Right click on the file, click properties. Click Compatibility, then check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" then I selected Windows 2000 as I had some trouble with 98. Let me know if it works. mini/smile

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

What are your camera settings/quality? I no that I had that problem when I tried going over 1080p (with the c920). I also had that problem when the files would get too large, and when I would try adding onto a current film.
Probably none of these are the problem, but I don't know. If the problem stays, you could delete the program, and redownload it.

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

@1011Ev: I'm using Win 7. Does your solution still apply?

@legoguy: I'm using the LQCP9000, trying to film at 1280x720. I've already tried re-downloading the program, but I will try filming in a slightly lower quality.

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

Another problem; I try to capture a frame on helium frog and an image of a beat up helium frog logo appears saying, "Eror code 02.01 capture routine prblem" every time I try to use helium frog.  mini/twitch
Any sugestions?

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

Nothing I try does anything. I've tried changing the compatability, nothing. Also filming in a lower resoultion, still nothing. I always get that message when I hit the "Capture" button:

I cannot open the .avi for playback

.

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

Have you tried deleting all the helium frog files and downloading them again? Oh and be sure to move your captured frames to somewhere safe before doing so!

Also have you installed any new programs or made any changes to your computer that you think could have effected .avi files somehow. (Sorry I couldn't explain that any better)

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

I've tried numerous times of deleting all the files and downloading them again. I can't think of anything that I could have downloaded that would affect my .avi files except getting the DivX codec so I could play .avi files encoded with DivX. Would that affect it?

No need to save them it won't let me capture a single frame.
I tried to go check helium frog's website for info about eror 2.01 but the site won't come up!

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

END - If the site doesn't even load, then you may have a computer problem. You might try running a scan to make sure you don't have a virus. Also, have you tried downloading the program again?
Here's another person who had your problem (error 2.01), and was given some suggestions. It might help.

Mighty - Check where your pictures are are being sent to, and make sure it is a real place that you have admission to enter. Also, check this.

Hope this might help you two. If not, just try doing searches on the web to see if you can find an answer.

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

Well, my Dad was helping me out and we figured out that somehow the .avi files that Helium Frog is making are getting corrupted. Does anyone know why, and how to fix it?

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

My problems seem to be fixed.
a.my guese is it was an older helium forg site that was recently deleted. I found the new one via google search.
b.I redownloaded it from the new site and it worked. mini/smile

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

Glad you got it figured out END. And Mighty, I don't know anything about corrupted files, so hopefully you and your dad can figure it out (or someone else will help). Here's one reason why they get corrupted. Also, for solving the problem, you should do an internet search, and see if anything helps.

Hope you can get it figured out. mini/smile

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

As Helium Frog makes the .avi file as it goes along it needs continuous access to it at all times.
If other programs are accessing it you will get problems.
Don't have a media player playing it. Also some media players tie up directory access and don't release it propertly.
Don't rename the file whilst working or move it.
Some media players alter the file header (I don't know why but they do). Helium Frog checks the file header to make sure it was created by it, so this can cause issues.
Don't edit the file or remove frames. Some editors don't build the index at the end of the file correctly or completely remove it.

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

Thanks a lot, everyone. I figured out that somehow the DivX codec I downloaded was doing something to every .avi that was saved and making it unreadable to HeliumFrog. I uninstalled the codec and now I can film just fine. mini/bigsmile

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

Yessiree it does Mighty. I do the same.
It may not be able to retrieve your lost animation but it might help prevent it from happening in the future. mini/smile

Re: HeliumFrog Problem

That's okay, I wasn't able to do any animation with that problem, so nothing was lost. mini/smile Thanks again!
