(It's a web comic)

Re: Drawings and other Art

@Troodon: Homestuck a webcomic that I read. It's drawings are almost all in that sort of style.

@Smeagol: Thanks, although I didn't actually use MS Paint, but I did it in that style. I used Photoshop; the brush was in 'pencil' mode.

Anything to say about this sketch?

Re: Drawings and other Art

It's nice, Funmi. Really. mini/smile  But, don't let it get you down that people are paying more attention to other people's work and not yours. That's the world of filmmaking in a nutshell. mini/tongue

Have you seen a big-chinned boy?

Re: Drawings and other Art

To Funmi: I don't really have much specific to say about the sketch, but if I could offer some advice: try to practice drawing from sight. It doesn't have to be live drawing, but sketching something you can see in front of you (even if it's just a photograph) and actively compare your work to will do wonders when you want to move into drawing things from your imagination. It's difficult, but try to focus on drawing what you see rather than what you think you saw. For example, if I told someone to draw an apple, they'd probably draw an oval with a line on top. That's what we tend to think of an apple as being, and we could probably tell that they had drawn an apple- but when we actually look at an apple, its form is much more complicated than that, and it really doesn't resemble our image of an apple at all. As you draw more from sight, your mental imagery improves and you tend to have a better idea of what things actually look like. Or so they tell me, haha.

As far as technique goes, some of your lines are kind of sketchy and uncertain- I'd advise trying to draw clean decisive lines early on, unless you're actively going for a rough aesthetic. I used to do little tiny pencil strokes, and now I have to force myself not to do it when I draw. It's your decision of course, and there's nothing that says drawings have to have long smooth lines, but personally I wish someone had told me to stop doing it early on.

Now that I've written two paragraphs on how much I know about art, I guess it's time to reveal that I'm actually a hack. Art dump ahoy.

This one is from a few months ago, unfinished. I could never really decide where I wanted to go with it. I'm tempted to say the only thing I don't think is terrible is the face. This piece actually persuaded me to do more figure drawings that have helped a little on the anatomy (although I don't suppose I can post them here because ew nekkid peeple).

Read From Hell a few days ago, felt inspired to sketch up Sir Gull himself. This was a bit of a speed drawing, took about fifteen minutes, I think.

While we're on the topic of horrible monsters... Slenderman, anyone?

Re: Drawings and other Art

Awesome work Squash! I really like those. The first photo is really well done. Especially the background and upper body/head of the figure. The one thing that caught my eye as not quite fitting was the lower half of the figure. I feel like his waist could have been a bit more slim and the legs could have been a deal thinner. It would look for even with the upper body then, imo.

Also, I really like the style of the man's face in the bottom piece. His eyes are really neatly done.
Great job!

Don't know what Twitch is, but the dragon is cute. Have you got the sketches for it around?

Re: Drawings and other Art

No, forgot to mention I found the dragon a LONG time ago and I've adopted it as part of my logo. I can send you the dragon file which you can trace though....

Re: Drawings and other Art

Nah that's ok. Being the "drawings and other art" thread I was interested in how you went about the illustration of the dragon. As it's not yours my interest is moot. mini/wink

Re: Drawings and other Art

Drawing has always been a fun hobby for me. Here's one of my favorite sketchs that I've done. (Probably the only scanned drawing of mine) mini/smile

I might go back and color it in some time, if I feel up to it.

Thanks! mini/tongue It's a rabbit. I think it could be something from Alice in Wonderland or something.

Sweet rabit, MrLego!
Here's a quick slenderman wallpaper I made for myself. Pixeled look was intentional, fyi.

Sorry for the large-ish image.

Re: Drawings and other Art

Nice wallpaper, Living LEGO. I dislike the pixelated look though, it just makes it look like a low res image IMO, instead of it giving it a more stylized look. A soft feather would look nicer I think.

@Sean - Really like that logo design. Also I appreciate how you included the initial concept sketch for it.

I'm more of a doodler and I enjoy doing sketchnotes. Here is the page where I came up with and finalized my LEGO iPhone video idea. Also worth noting, I write in my notebooks backwards, so the page order is right to left.
