Topic: The LEGO Groups Newfound Support of Brickfilms

As most of you have probably noticed, TLG's support of brickfilming has gone through the roof in the last few months. Between the Tongal contests which are popping up left and right, and the new Rebrick site, they seem to have finally accepted our communal hobby as legitimate. Here's the question I'm posing:

Is this really a good thing for brickfilms?

Yes, it's nice to know that you can post a brickfilm on youtube and get revenue from it and not fear a litigation, but I've been noticing that it is now a dream of many brickfilmers, including myself, to get a film on the official LEGO YouTube channel, I mean who wouldn't want that. What this seems to be leading too, however, is many good brickfilmers focusing on making LEGO City and Monster Hunter themed films, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's getting tired of the red pickup truck getting chased by the forest police and encountering a bear. I haven't seen much distinction between all these films following LEGO Group's restrictions. The main goal of all these contests seems to be to get as much low budget to free advertising.

So, could TLG's current stance on brickfilms lead to a lack of diversity?

Feel free to discuss anything related to The LEGO Groups brickfilm endeavors.

Re: The LEGO Groups Newfound Support of Brickfilms

If you refer to Tongal, yes and no.

Yes because everyone posts videos to youtube that all end up being the same. No because LEGO selects the 5 most creative and different winners to be more public.

Can't say anything about rebrick since I haven't heard of it since.

As for regular brickfilmers, they aren't restricted by anything, and I kind of like the range of great LEGO city videos I see on Youtube.

Put it this way. The BEST brickfilmers will always make films with creative ideas and a range of diversity. That's why they will be the best.

Exactly. Also what do you mean with a 'new' Rebrick? It's been around for quite a while now together with it's acceptance for brickfilms. Heck, I was the one who asked them if they could put BiM into the best LEGO communities sites (which they did).
