Re: Drawings and other Art

Drawing is just about believing in yourself. One day I was bored and trapped on a boat so I locked myself in the library and taught myself how to draw in about five days. There are plenty of books on the subject (Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain), but the main thing is drawing what the eye sees rather than schema, or what the brain thinks you see. Despite what people say drawing is not one of those talents that only comes to a few people, with practice it's possible for anyone

Everyone can draw, but it's a matter of how well you can draw. mini/wink

And the quality of a drawing or artist is entirely subjective, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

Also, it entirely depends on what is defined as a 'good' drawing. Generally, people think a piece that looks realistic, true to life, is good, the more like a photograph, the better, and that good artists are the ones who can achieve lifelike art (the same happens with animation). But when drawing, one has to remeber that always representing life to the fullest isn't what makes an artist 'good' or 'bad'. I don't know what does.

You must have a large boat.

Re: Drawings and other Art

Attending life drawing classes (In before "EW I CAN'T DRAW NAKED PEOPLE") is the best way to skyrocket your drawing ability. Take the classes regularly (at least once a week, more if possible) and your skill will increase exponentially.

I don't mean this harshly, but saying that a skill is attributed to "believing in yourself" is a bit of a cop-out. Some people do have raw ability, true, but the real skill comes from lots of practice and honing that particular talent. As Wallace Tripp said,

The first ten thousand drawings are the hardest. Put another way, you have ten thousand bad drawings within and should expel them as quickly as possible.

Sprite artwork progression for Odin. Middle is the sprite, currently working through the shading for the body and limbs. The head is an example of the final aim.

I've create a DeviantArt Page (Link). Also you may or may not know the user Zisteau who is currently hosting a fan art contest. Here's my entry:

Constructive criticism is appreciated.

Remember when I posted this? Welp, out of the 600 entries 15 winners were chosen and this was one of 'em. Looks like I'll be promoted to 80.000 people plus I'm getting some sweet gear mini/smile

Once, just once, I'd like to see someone critique my drawings. In all my time of posting on this thread, everything I post has been completely ignored.

@Golden Alright, I'll be the nice guy. Seriously, you've captured the feel of abandonment into the drawing. Just wondering, but what is Homestuck?
@Smeagol mini/eek I'm in love. Your drawings never fail to amaze me.

Re: Drawings and other Art

@Golden I like that. Very detailed. Can't imagine I'd enjoy having to work with the limitations of MS Paint like that, the color palette is quite nice.

@Smeagol: It looks great, but his face looks too plain, like a cardboard. You should define better the shadows and lights, like in the chin and above the nose. I love the way you made the fur though.

@Golden: I really like it, love the style. Maybe a reflection of the sun in the sea and some sparkles could benefit. Still, remains a really nice painting.
