Almost makes me wish I had a logo. Also makes me want to make more films so it will be worth putting that theoretical logo on them.

So... I've tried this InVideo Programming and it works very well.
Good job Youtube ![]()
Well, turned 18 Tuesday! I plan on going for partner. I apologize, but I know next to NOTHING about the thing. Do I want to go for the youtube partnership, or try and get one through a 3rd party? What features are different, and can I switch from one to another? Thanks.
Happy B-Day! I too had a change of age in this month
. Anyhow it depends. The 3rd party contracts can screw you over big time if you don't watch out but you get all the 'old' partner features. If you choose to do it via Youtube you'll have all those options too, except for the banners (sadly). The rest (custom thumbnail, etc) is all available after a week or too of being an active partner. What I think Youtube is doing is slowly adding in new features over time and bringing back old one too!
What is a 3rd party contract? Is this like Machinima networks or something? Someone should start one of those exclusively brickfilms.
If you monetize your vids, then you have a YouTube Partnership. If you want another network to partner (better in my opinion) then research what their policies are. You can just get a YouTube partner probably today (its easy, just click monetize). If you want to gat another networks partnership, you cannot have any copyright in your vids. If you do, the only way to gat partnered (by a 3rd party) is to delete them
Socialblade is one of the Third Party Partners from what i know of.
Be very sure before you sign a contract. You want to know what you are agreeing to before accepting it. If I've heard correctly some of the Networks make it seem like your getting a better cut of the money from the ads, when they neglect to tell you that the percentages they tell you are actually based off the earnings after YouTube takes it's cut. So for the YouTube Partner Program, you only have one other group taking part of the money, whereas with a network I think you have two groups taking money, thus diminishing the amount you get even more. On the plus side you will get all of those features people want so desperately. So it really depends on what you want. Just make sure to do your research and not rush into anything.
Thanks everybody for all of the info, I appreciate it. So is the ONLY thing "missing" from the Youtube Partner Program the channel banners?
That and the little username banner that you can have next to the Subscribe button while someone watches your video. I think that's it though. Personally, the banner isn't a good enough perk to want to sign a contract with another Network. But that's just me. I'll bide my time and perhaps YouTube will roll it out to all Partners eventually (seeing as they have been doing this with almost all the other features).
Alright, getting ready to apply for the partnership, but I have run into an issue. The diamond steel plate pic that i have used in my logo, may not be royalty free. I would go and actually buy it now, but for the life of me I CAN'T find the download site. What should I do? Take down every film that I have used that logo in? Or just apply anyway?

I'd say it's in the public freedom thingie. Like classical music. Forgot what it's called.
Public Domain? And just because it's classical music, doesn't mean it's in the public domain. More info on the Public Domain in the USA can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_dom ted_States. Though this probably won't help you, RedBrick... not sure what to tell you.
Hmmm. Because of my video Smile!, my Content ID clams is "Not in good standing."
Is this bad?
Okay, this might sound really dumb after the last question. I was looking at the monetize your video stuff, could someone give me a basic overview of the things I should really know? Like, are you able to do it if you are under 18 with a parents permission? If I was a partner, am I still able to post things on BiM? So would you say the best way is being a YouTube partner instead of with a 3rd party? Something important is my username, JonnDthunDer; is it legal or not? It is based roughly off of the name of the old LEGO theme Johnny Thunder and the Adventures, but the caps are my initials and I changed it a bit. Also, are all the titles, font, songs, soundfx, and transitions in iMovie royalty-free? Can I use anything from iMovie in my films?
Am I able to partner some of my videos, if the rest contain copyright material? Or can I make a second channel and have that have my ones with copyright material in it, and JonnDthunDer would keep the videos without any copyright things.
Sorry if this was in the terms and all that, I read through most of it, but I guess I'm not very good at reading contracts...
Thanks, and I hope these aren't way too many obvious questions... ![]()
I'm not entirely certain about this, but I believe only sheet music or specifically licensed public domain recordings can be public domain. Most classical music recordings that would be used in films are likely not public domain, because they are distinct performances of a public domain work that have not yet entered public domain themselves. Again, not a copyright attorney or anything, but it's probably not safe to assume a classical recording is public domain solely because the piece being performed is old.
I highly doubt Youtube cares enough to check whether the image you used in the background of a logo is licensed or not. I'd imagine Youtube processes so many partnership requests that it wouldn't be worth their time to investigate something so trivial. Not telling you to intentionally go around swiping images without paying, of course.
