Re: Help: Buying a new computer

Check if the pc on Ebay can support a graphics card because right now it needs an actual graphics card, not a built into the processor one if your gonna do H.D.

Re: Help: Buying a new computer

Really? Dang... well is it worth spending 1300 on this model? Or should I find a different model with 12 gb ram but for like 950?

Loic- did you buy a graphics card?

Nope... mini/no

Re: Help: Buying a new computer

Is that something I should do? Or will it run fine as is? I'm not necessarily looking for more things to buy after I make a purchase like this.

Re: Help: Buying a new computer

I'd like to point out that all my brickfilms are in 1080p and I don't have a separate graphics card, just the one built into the processor. I think people sometimes forget how small something that is 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels actually is.

I don't think so...

Are you going to play video games on it?

NO, it is NOT worth spending this fee on a model. Well, for the average consumer, it may be; but if you really want a good deal, I would recommend buying a cheap desktop model and later upgrading it with better parts from Newegg. This way you can have [relatively] up-to-date parts with a smaller budget.

I myself spent about $1100 on my PC that has better specs than the $1300 model that was linked before. It has 16 GB RAM, 2 X 2 TB 7200RPM Hard Drives, a GTX 560 Ti graphics card, 900-Watt PSU, and a six-core CPU @ 3.8 GHz. I'm simply listing out the specs to show you that most consumer desktops are rip-offs. With a little research and some DIY ingenuity, you can easily get your money's worth for a better computer.

Please know that I don't mean to insult anyone's knowledge with this post; I'm simply trying to help this guy out.

Re: Help: Buying a new computer

It depends on what he wants to buy... Gopher.

I purchased this computer because I don't have the time to ''upgrade it with better parts'' mini/wink

Re: Help: Buying a new computer

True story, it's can be relatively expensive and does take some research.

Again, didn't mean to offend you; it's still a good choice for someone (like you) who doesn't want/need to upgrade it.

Re: Help: Buying a new computer

I hear ya Gopher, I appreciate the opinion. However, I don't know anything s**** about the tech side of computers, so buying a computer that's basically set to go is a lot more tempting.

Re: Help: Buying a new computer

More help needed fellas.

So I recently purchased this. With 12 gb RAM, etc.

And so far it's great, I like everything about it. BUT when I run my editing software (magix movie edit pro 2013, nothing special) It lags still like it did with my laptop. The files are large, but that shouldn't cause my program to not playback smoothly, or to crash like it has been, should it?
It lags with my animated footage with a res around 2500x1700, but lags the same with my live action footage at 1080p.

Could it possibly be my editing program? Do I need something more high end to handle the files? The program says it has full HD support.

Thoughts?

Re: Help: Buying a new computer

Well, whenever I'm editing in Premiere or After Effects, I can't edit HD footage in full resolution. I have to set playback to 1/2 or 1/4. I have 8GB of RAM and an i7 processor. I'm not a computer expert, but I don't think you're going to be able to edit your footage in full resolution without any lag at all. Perhaps I'm wrong. I've never heard of the software you use, but I would recommend seeing if it has a feature like AE or Premiere where you can set playback to being different ratios.

Re: Help: Buying a new computer

Yeah I hear ya RP. And I do have those settings. I've tried it on it's lowest res playback options (something like 420x270) and it still lags, just as bad as any other playback option.

It literally slows down and lags so bad it makes editing dang near impossible. Frustrating!

Does your editing Software use your GPU?

Re: Help: Buying a new computer

@Aquamorph - Not sure! How do I check? Look at processes running.. or?

You would have to look at how much your GPU is being used while you video edit as apposed to not video editing

Re: Help: Buying a new computer

Gotcha. I can check. But the CPU meter is only at like 5 % when i'm trying to play back. I'll check the GPU.

EDIT: Do I need to download a third party program in order to monitor my GPU usage? Could this be the cause of it do you think, GPU usage? It just seems improbable with this computer.

My GPU came with a monitor but it is an NVIDIA. I have no idea what AMD come with. The software I use to edit uses my GPU and it makes a big difference.

Re: Help: Buying a new computer

But if that's the case, does that mean I should upgrade my software? What do you use to edit?

I am a big fan of Premiere and After Effects. I have used it for about a year now and love it.
