Topic: Perth (Aus) Brickfilmers

I'm wondering if there is anyone else on BiM, or just an active brickfilmer, from the Perth, Australia, area; or someone who is able to make it to Perth around about October (?) next year.

I was thinking, to spread the word of brickfilming and stop motion in general around Perth, that we could get a pavilion (if possible) at the 2013 Perth Royal Show. To make it interesting for visitors to our pavilion, we could make it like a contest or challenge style event. Each brickfilmer (or group of brickfilmers) brings their own 'studio' (any equipment and needed LEGO) down for how ever many days we display.
Say we display for the whole show (several days), then we have a challenge to see who can make the best brickfilm (voted by the public) in the time provided. All scripting, filming, and editing would be done at the show over the days, and on the final day, our completed projects are displayed for public voting.
Winner gets bragging rights.

It'd be a fun little event to hold, and would really get us more awareness within the Perth community, whom I think is a bit uneducated about brickfilming. We could also have brochures or business cards to advertise our own YouTube channels/websites/BiM.

So, are there any of you out there who'd be up for this if a pavilion can be organised. If pavilions are available, but for a rent, would you maybe be willing to pitch in a set amount of the rent price?

Open to suggestions. I'd also suggest other similar events around the world be organised of similar style.

Seems like a cool idea, but wouldn't you guys get a massive amount of light flicker? mini/confused

Re: Perth (Aus) Brickfilmers

I was thinking that, but then I thought we could have black tarps hanging down creating a wall, and darkening our work space a bit. Alternatively, part of the fun and skill show-offs would be in reducing the light flicker; either through 'stage' set up, or editing.

EDIT: just been in discussion with the Perth Royal Show on Facebook, and it looks like anyone is able to apply for a spot at the show. Looking at the Wanneroo agricultural show though, it most likely will cost us money, and it could be a lot depending on how much space we need (m2), and how many power outlets we need.

Re: Perth (Aus) Brickfilmers

I'm going to email them today, and ask a few question like space and electricity, etc. but It'd be great if I can start to get a show of hands as to who is interested in doing this.

I would, but I live in the eastern side of Australia [NSW, QSL,VIC, TAS] so I definately can't make it. Good luck though mini/smile

No festival though, just a casual meet-up.

Re: Perth (Aus) Brickfilmers

Yeah, I'm not really calling this a 'casual meet-up', more a 'sell brickfilming to the wider community' event.
