Topic: GIMP Question

I know many of you guys use GIMP, so I thought I'd ask this here:

How do you outline text? I can't figure it out.
The closest thing I found was in Logos, but that makes a shadow as well; I don't want a shadow.

Anyone know?

Re: GIMP Question

What kind of outline do you want?

Just a simple outline around the text, that's all.

Re: GIMP Question

What I'd suggest if you're using GIMP is to make a copy of the text layer, and make the text a few sizes larger, then put it behind the text you want outlined to make an outline. Make sure to change the color, too.

I tried that, it didn't work.

The only way something like that could work is to copy each individual letter. But then all the outlines might not be on the same level.

Re: GIMP Question

Well, here's something I found on the GIMP forums.

Re: GIMP Question

The way I do my logo which has an outline is by creating a text layer, then making it as big as the image, (the layer, not the text) alpha to selection it, grow selection, make a new layer and place it under the original and fill it in with the other color.

Re: GIMP Question

What Keesret said. Right click on the text layer> alpha to selection. Select Grow. Then create a new layer and bucket fill the new layer, or whatever.

Re: GIMP Question

I'm having trouble with GIMP as well.

I'm trying to make a piece of text using a logo, remove all the background so it's just text, and transplant it onto an image.  Sadly, my expertise in photo-editing is far from the greatest, and I'm completely stumped.  What really throws me is the fact that the logo is treated as a separate image.
