Topic: The Best of Underrated Megabloks

Yes, I know LEGO is a bazillion times better than Megaboks, no questions asked, but sometimes there are some things LEGO has missed the mark with.

This thread is for you all to post what you think is the most essential Megabloks to have in your collection. There are some pieces in the Megabloks range that go above and beyond what LEGO have produced, but have been looked down upon and are underrated because of their branding.

To start things off, I'll give an example. Sorry, but I couldn't find a picture example.

Megabloks has a 2x2 double sided stud plate. I think this is the best piece in the Megabloks range, because quite frankly, LEGO has nothing like it, and it can really come in handy sometimes.

So just like that, if you have come across a Megabloks piece and asked yourself why the hell LEGO hasn't done anything like this, post a description or a picture in this thread.

Re: The Best of Underrated Megabloks

I bought some of the Dragons line back when they first came out. I acquired a castle/keep set and some army builder packs from the local Ames at a discount. What surprised me was the playability of the set. The dragons have magnetic claws while the knight torsos are made of metal (or have something metal in their chest cavity). I can flap the dragon wings and attach a stone that will glow to the dragon chest. There was a campfire piece that glows and some ornate weathered looking pieces.

My favorite piece of the whole theme was the Vorgan beast. Made in a few different colors and sizes-these monsters were very unique and fun to play with. Their jaws snap shut. Their arms are double hinged so they can pull out as well as move up and down. And the coolest thing to me is the inclusion of a tuft of hair on the tops of their heads/backs. While looking evil the hair gives them a little more life and a small dose of reality. I enjoyed the Dragons series quite a bit-but like I say every time-I wouldn't wish Mega Bloks on anyone or recommend them at all.

The castle walls were a huge pain to snap together, and the base plate linking was a pain. The knights and orcs were basically laughable aside from their playability- they just look like crap. I know this isn't a beat Mega Bloks thread-sorry for the inclusion. They certainly got a few things right with the Dragons line.

Here's a picture of the set containing the Vorgan War Beast:

Have fun.

Re: The Best of Underrated Megabloks

I loved the dragons sets back then. Too bad what happened to the sets now that they canceled them. Okay, so the knights and orcs were somewhat lolzy, but the dragons were awesome.

Re: The Best of Underrated Megabloks

Funny how this turned from the best bricks into the best sets mini/confused

Any particular bricks you guys prefer megabloks to lego?

Re: The Best of Underrated Megabloks

My brother currently has a few sets of Halo, he says they are very realistic to the game, and so they are, but I would rather prefer customizing Lego than using Mega Bloks Elites and brutes.

I really adore the Halo line they've produced - they are, as your brother rightly says, highly realistic and capture the sense of the game really well. Certain things in the Halo Universe just can't be made properly with Lego (Lego Elites look nothing like the real thing) but Mega Bloks makes a really good job out of it. The level of accuracy on their figures is also far superior to what Lego brings out. Don't get me wrong, all in all I prefer Lego, but I'd say out of the two building-block companies, Mega Blok's Halo franchise is the best line of licensed sets.

I don't make Brickfilms. I trade virtual hats.

I beg to differ with you there. But their Halo line, coming from an avid Halo 3 player, is excellent.

The quality is duly noted, however this looks completely different to this (credit where it's due, the Lego Elite is fantastic; nonetheless, I wouldn't want to settle for less when there's already a perfectly good line of Halo out there that involves less effort in acquiring particular pieces). The grunt, too, is impressive, but Mega Bloks' weapons are identical, and the Spartan isn't even official Lego - why purchase non-licensed figures when Mega Bloks is already making excellent replicas?
