Topic: 3D printers...the end of Lego?

3D printers are all the rage, the up and coming technology which people claim will revolutionize production and further advance the third industrial revolution. The technology is advancing at a blistering pace, with new materials being added all the time. Cheaper price tags are making this a popular tool for very advanced DIYers.
I'm sure most of you have already heard about 3D printers and thus don't need me to keep talking about them, so let's get to the point: could 3D printers be the end of the Lego Group? Not necessarily in the very near future, but in thirty to fifty years?
Think about it, the prices will continue to drop and soon these will probably be commonplace, maybe not in homes but in a community center or in a community-funded DIY workshop it is entirely conceivable. Imagine the advantages for AFOLS and MOCers (can you say that?). Being able to print any piece you need, a double sided plate or an amazingly detailed custom minifigure, in any color you want, whenever you want. It would be amazing. So my question, again, is what does the community think about it?

Re: 3D printers...the end of Lego?

Yeah, but I'm sure LEGO would put a copyright of some sorts up, they aren't ones to lose money. People might do it in private, illegally, though. Still, I don't think it would become a black-market type thing. Anyway, we shall see, we shall see.
