Topic: Good Editing Program?

As you can tell, I'm pretty new around here, and to Brickfilming in general as well.

I've been wanting to make Brickfilms for quite a while now, but, alas, can't seem to find a good editing program. mini/blankexpression   I'd thought of using PowerDirector and downloaded the free trial, but I can't adjust the frame rate properly, and it doesn't come with the timelapse slideshow tool, so I don't know if that's any good. mini/frustrated

Long story short, up to now I've been stymied.  Can anyone recommend a good editing program that works well for making stop-motions and isn't eye-wateringly expensive?  I'm thinking something up to £60/$100 (though of course a good free program would be entirely acceptable, too mini/tongue ).

Just to clarify things, I, for a variety of reasons, can't use the usual camera/webcam + computer and Capture Software stetup, but instead take a bunch of pictures with a digital still camera and load them directly into the program (hence the importance of adjusting the frame rate properly).

If anyone could give me some helpful advice, I'd be extremely grateful.

Re: Good Editing Program?

I'd recommend Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11. I used it for ages, and it's around £30. It seems complicated to start with, but watch tutorials and you'll learn the ropes quickly.

Lightworks. (It's free.)

Reading the user guides really helps with learning the program.

Not literally dead, just no longer interested in Lego or animation.

Re: Good Editing Program?

I second Fat Cat, Sony Vegas is the best thing that I've ever used.
It's been said that once you figure out Lightworks, it's really good. But a good number of people that have tried it (Myself included) never could get past the initial learning curve.

Re: Good Editing Program?

Lightworks is an amazing editor, but needs more ram than expected. I think they recommend 8 GB, but that was a couple of months ago. I'm not sure if they've re-configured it to use less.

Re: Good Editing Program?

I used to use a digital camera as well.

Sony Vegas is the most popular, and the platinum version is relatively cheap. It is good because you can insert a picture which holds for 0.07 seconds (15 frames per second), even 0.035 seconds (30 frames per second), unlike some other programs like Roxio.

It also provides an arsenal of effects and transitions with extensive customization.

Good Luck (∩▂∩)

Re: Good Editing Program?

I've used pinnacle studio for years and it's worked great for me. You can insert frames at lengths that allow for any frame rate, which is of course essential. Any version works. mini/smile

Hey, look at this! mini/smile

Re: Good Editing Program?

Thanks! mini/smile  I'll be definitely checking these out.

I'll give Lightworks a shot, but I'm not sure if it's ideal, as my expertise with computers isn't the greatest.  On the other hand, I'm always willing to accept a challenge, and this would give me the perfect opportunity to learn more about computers. mini/tongue
