Topic: Final Cut Express 4.0 question.

Hey guys need help from anyone who uses or has used FCE 4.0.
Is there a way to adjust the duration in the settings anywhere so it actually is editing the clips at fifteen frames per second?
I enter the proper time for fifteen frames and it is not doing it.
Any help would help.
Thanks.

Re: Final Cut Express 4.0 question.

I have a few years of experience with FCP and was wondering about this myself, I've looked everywhere and eventually found an article (I believe it was on creative cow) saying that 15 fps in FCP was discontinued a few years back, I believe the minimum now is 24 fps.
What I do is set the frame rate to 30 and make each photo last 2 frames, which works (it doesn't look slowed down or anything) and actually has an advantage in that (I believe) YouTube only supports 1080p uploads at 30 fps.
Hope that helps!

PS I have quite a bit of experience with FCP and Motion so if you (or anyone else) needs help feel free to PM me or whatever and I'll do my best (my dad is also a professional documentary editor who works mainly with FCP, so if I can't do it I can ask him mini/smile)

Re: Final Cut Express 4.0 question.

Alrighty Shrambo I made a quick tutorial on doing 15fps in FCP...here goes:

Step 1:
http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p514/UnreelRealm/15fps%20in%20FCP/Pic1.jpg

Make a new project in FCP (with a new sequence of course)

Step 2:
http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p514/UnreelRealm/15fps%20in%20FCP/Pic2.jpg

Drag in your images, organize them into bins, etc...get your content into FCP

Step 3:
http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p514/UnreelRealm/15fps%20in%20FCP/Pic3.jpg

Right click on your sequence and go to settings. Take note of the size and compressor of your photos.

Step 4:
http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p514/UnreelRealm/15fps%20in%20FCP/Pic4.jpg

In the sequence settings, set the frame rate to 29.97 (30) fps.

Step 5:
http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p514/UnreelRealm/15fps%20in%20FCP/Pic5.jpg

Set the sequence compressor to match what it said on your images.

Step 6:
http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p514/UnreelRealm/15fps%20in%20FCP/Pic6-7Merge.jpg

Leave the sequence settings and double click on your sequence to bring it up in the timeline. Drag in your images.

Step 7:
http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p514/UnreelRealm/15fps%20in%20FCP/Pic8.jpg

Select all your images and right click on them. Scroll down to where it says "Duration".

Step 8:
http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p514/UnreelRealm/15fps%20in%20FCP/Pic9.jpg

In the duration menu, leave everything but the last value at zero. Make the last number 2.

Step 9:
http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p514/UnreelRealm/15fps%20in%20FCP/Pic10.jpg

Everything looks a bit smaller after hitting Ok. Play back your movie. It should run smoothly!

A note about step 5. If you that every little change you make in your sequence requires a render, go back into sequence settings and play around a bit until that no longer happens. My images were cropped to 1920x1080, you should make your sequence setting reflect the size of your images or you'll get letterboxing or stretching and other things we don't want.

Tell me if that helps!
