Topic: Replacement for WLMM

Yeah, I'm looking for a WLMM replacement. Right now I'm favoring Adobe Premiere Pro, and I was wondering where a good place to buy it would be.

If there is a different program (around $100) that is better than Premiere, could I be informed what it is and where to get it?

Thanks!

Re: Replacement for WLMM

As far as I know, preimere is the best low-ish budget non-linear editor you can get.
A lot of people use Sony Vegas, but it seems that they only use it because that's what they know how to use, not because they like it.

Re: Replacement for WLMM

Personally I love Sony Vegas; from what I've seen, it differs from person to person, much like capture programs. I haven't tried Adobe, but I don't know if they have a trial version or not. By all means, go with Adobe if you know you'll like the interface and whatnot; even if there is something that does twice as much for the same price, if you hate working with it, it's not worth getting. Sony Vegas works great for me, but I can't speak against any other programs, nor for anyone except myself.

Nevermind.

So kcirbfilms, are you saying Vegas does more than Premiere? After looking Vegas over more intensely I'm starting to like that too....

Re: Replacement for WLMM

I love Adobe Premiere Pro, but anything with Pro on the end of it is one major leap from WLMM and might prove an off-putting learning curve. I started off my journey in proper video editing software with Adobe Premiere Elements, but that seems to have been really dumbed down since my day.

Whether you choose Vegas or Premiere Pro I think is down to how ambitious you're feeling. How much learning are you ready to take?

Re: Replacement for WLMM

I'd like to take as big a step as I can, but funds keep that from happening. That's why I'm wanting to go with something not too expensive, but still does a pretty good job.

Re: Replacement for WLMM

Mighty, I can't say which is "better;" I'm pretty sure Vegas has a trial version, and possibly Adobe does as well. If possible, you should play around with trial versions to see which interface and whatnot you like better.

Re: Replacement for WLMM

They both do, and I am planning on doing that, thanks.

Re: Replacement for WLMM

Well, I tried downloading the trial versions, but wasn't able to thanks to having to register the program, make an Adobe account, and needing the "Adobe Installer" program. mini/blankexpression

Well, can someone maybe take some pictures showing what Vegas/Premiere can do?

Re: Replacement for WLMM

I can try with Premiere in the next few days.

Re: Replacement for WLMM

I was looking around and found out that Premiere has more features, but they are more manual, and require a lot more time. But Vegas is faster to use and has fewer features. I'll have to think about that....

Re: Replacement for WLMM

Yep, like I said, a steeper learning curve will come with anything "pro". It can be a bit overwhelming.

Re: Replacement for WLMM

Premiere Pro does have a steeper learning curve than Sony Vegas. But you will be so glad you bought Premiere because once you get the hang of it, it's quite simple and you'll find yourself learning faster as you use it more. Now I'm standing from more of a live action filmmaking standpoint more than brickfilming. If Sony Vegas is more in your budget and you are just going to throwing a few effects on the footage by all means get it. But if you want an awesome look and feel that you can fine tune on your live action film...Premiere Pro is definitely the way to go. One thing that really helped me to get a boost in the world of Adobe video tools was Adobe TV. The link is the part of Adobe TV dedicated to Adobe Premiere Pro. I recommend watching the tutorials Jason Levine hosts.

Re: Replacement for WLMM

Thanks a lot, VanderFlame, that was really helpful. I would like to eventually do some live-action stuff, and even for my brickfilms I'd like to have more control over how they turn out. Thanks everyone!

Re: Replacement for WLMM

Final Cut is another good program to look at (if you don't have a tight wallet).

You're welcome. I'm open for anymore questions.
