The Great Dictator

An impressive, yet witty, take on Adolf Hitler's character. Plus, it has some funny moments, good morals, and a heartwarming storyline. I enjoyed this film very much.

I really don't see why people hated this. Of course I may be biased because this is also my parent's favorite film. It had pretty good acting, great screenwriting, and awesome songs. "If you admit you can play the accordion nobody will hire you in a rock and roll band!" (I can totally relate to that.)
What's the deal? Why do people hate this so much that it didn't even get released on DVD?

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Twister
I love this movie, it is probably one of the best movies I have seen, amazing special effects, a good story (story was not really complicated tho).the only problem i have with it is a very violant and gory scene where

i give it 9/10

Mission: Impossible

I never really showed an interest in the series back then. But, I was willing to give it a try. Of course, every spy movie is  a bit cliche, but this one is way different from the others. Things happened at the most unexpected times (and the film had me at the edge of my seat at many, many times). The special effects didn't seem to "overused" throughout the film; I think it was just the right amount. Overall, I really enjoyed this film (and it's awesome theme song).

Seemed like a chick-flick, but with just enough action and adventure to avoid being part of that genre. The whole movie was funny at times, but cheesy the entire time. Some of the dialogue was hilarious, but it was dampened by the constant references to "True love" and the 80's style special effects. Can't say I'd love to watch it again, but can't say I'd entirely hate it either. Of course, watching it at one in the morning might have something to do with my slightly negative opinion of it. mini/shifty

I really liked that movie. I thought it was such great fun...gotta' get round to reading the book though. Everyone keeps telling me that it was great.

The Princess Bride is one of the exceedingly rare situations where the movie is better than the book, in my opinion.

Airplane
I've been reading a lot of Ionesco plays and other absurdist things lately and they don't compare at all. This film was just so weird!
I liked every part of it except the two main characters were really annoying. And don't call me Surely.

Personally, I really love that film, and I really want to see it again sometime soon. It's filled with delightful quotes (Mostly because of Inigo), and one of the few films where they talk about true love all the time and yet it doesn't feel weird.

Oh, The Princess Bride was wonderful! In fact, I haven't seen it in quite some time... I should re watch it.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

The Princess Bride isn't cheesy, it's self-aware. Also, it's wonderful, so it's got that going for it.

I agree. I didn't like the film at all. I too, felt it was too cheesy and, while I don't think more action was necessary, do think they could have left out many of the modern day shots, along with some of the numerous romantic shots. I don't think it's a bad movie, but in my opinion, I just don't like it.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

What, you people dare doubt the validity of my opinion? Inconceivable. mini/tongue

Anyway, it usually takes me a few viewings to warm up to a movie. (Assuming it's even good enough for a few viewings.) Watching it at 1 AM, as well as having a "friend" quote each even slightly quotable line a half-second before it is uttered may have affected my impression of it. So I'm considering giving it another chance some time in the future....Does that make you happy? And yes, I still think it's cheesy. But I don't mind cheesy that much, after all, I was the one who made a Captain Obvious video for THAC 9.

And Juggernaut, I didn't hate it, I just didn't entirely love it. But it's probably worth a second viewing.

City of Ember was that way, movie was cool, book wasn't so great. And the next books in the series kept getting even worse, so I never finished them.

Oh, and I just finished The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Wasn't anywhere close to the book, but just as a movie, it was pretty good.

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Haha, yes that might dampen someones opinion of the movie. How annoying haha. mini/lol Anyways, we all have different tastes.

The Dawn Treader was pretty good as a movie. It was a slight let down when comparing it with the book, but it was still cool to see it interpreted into a movie. I read that they won't be making another Narnia movie for awhile if at all, due to Walden's contract with the C.S. Lewis Estate ending. (but of course, I saw this on Wikipedia.) Kind of sad, but perhaps in the future.

Last movie I watched I believe was Prince of Persia for about the 3rd or 4th time. Sure, it may not be the best movie ever but I really enjoy it as a good action flick. mini/smile

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I was disappointed they skipped "A horse and his boy" it was one of my favorite book's of the series. mini/sad

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

I know in the grand scheme of things, my opinion on this matter is irrelevant, but Voyage of the Dawn Treader was absolutely horrid. And I'm not comparing it to the book at all — the book is a blur of a memory — but VotDT was just an awful movie.

On a side note, it remains the only film I've seen ON MY COMPUTER that has had the soap opera effect. NO. THANK. YOU!

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

They made a movie of that? I never even heard about it!! (you know I've only read the first Narnia book and I don't think I've seen any of the movies)

Juno
This was a good movie. The plot was a bit humdrum but the execution was fantastic. It had great acting, screenwriting, MUSIC (oh definitely the MUSIC was the best music ever made!!) and cinematography. And aaaaaahhh it was so adorable when

The Diary of Anne Frank

Yeah, the 3-hour one from 1959. It was all right. I'm starting to get used to black-and-white films. I'm probably the only one who watched this and didn't cry at the very end (I also didn't cry at the end of Toy Story 3, shocking right!), but of course there were some moments that I cupped my mouth with my hand and held my breath.

If any of you don't know, I am a big fan of the Madagascar trilogy. This was probably my favorite of the series. (Polka Dot Afro is my new desktop mini/tongue )

Re: What was the last movie you watched?

Megalodon
Was not a good movie at all. If you're interested in sharks, I wouldn't watch this. For starters the whole film revolves around digging for oil, and

Spoiler (click to read)

you don't see the shark until ten minutes left in the movie, and the shark looks like a bath toy

. Not scary either, I don't know why it's classified as a horror movie mini/shifty 1/4.

Deep Blue Sea
Not too scary either, but had a good plot. I liked this film much more than deep-blue sea, and was decently realistic, with a pretty good plot mini/smile 2/4.

Fright Night
The movie was pretty slow. Too much talking scenes in the movie, and the build up took forever, but nonetheless, once the movie got going, it was good. Not too many jump scenes either, and when there were jump scenes they were meaningful, and made you feel like you were there. A decent movie, I'd give it a 2/4.

IT
I thought it was pretty good. Showed a pretty good plot, and amazed me as to how well it was put together, especially for its time. The clown was actually pretty scary, and the movie didn't revolve around jump scenes at all. And even though the movie was like three hours long, it was definitely worth it, and kept a good emotion, 3/4.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
I thought this was a good classic movie. First time I've ever seen it, and I thought the movie was pretty scary, especially for being a movie made in the 80's. Freddy appeared scary, and the atmosphere was built up well, the suspense was high, and overall it was a good movie, 3/4.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
What can I say? This was truley in the top five best horror movies I've seen in my life. The movie was terrifying, especially Freddy. Jackie Earle Haley did a phenomenal job as Freddy! The story was told better than the classic film, and it was more scarry, too. I must warn you that there are jump scenes every five minutes, so it seems. You can really relate to the characters, and it was a masterpiece. But I must question

Spoiler (click to read)

since Freddy was a pheadophile to the children when they were five years old, how come they couldn't remember Freddy? They were like sixteen years old. Who couldn't remember such a tramatic experience that just happened eleven years ago? I can vividly remember when I was five:/

. Anyways, I think this movie deserves a 4/4.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
I enjoyed it quite a bit. mini/smile Lots of thrilling action scenes and some rather nice sets. I particularly like Short Round, he's a delightful character, and really reminds me of a friend I had.
I had never seen this before because my older brother said it was awful and wasn't worth watching, so I watched the Last Crusade without seeing it. Then recently I realized that I tend to disagree with him so I saw it anyway, and I'm glad I did.
