Did you get 2.6.2?

Use MineWays and Blender to render this.
Critique?

Re: The CGI Thread

Hmmm... not bad. I guess right off the bat I would say that the tall grass is a bit dark. I would also say that the shadows are a bit soft, but that depends on what you are going for. Right now the lighting kind of makes me think of a cloudy morning or something. It looks more like you were wanting a sunny afternoon look though. If that is the case the shadows are both to soft and two light. I would turn down the sun's shadow radius a bit to sharpen the shadows and then reduce whatever sky light you have to darken the shadows more. It looks pretty decent though. I'm just being kind of picky.

Re: The CGI Thread

Looks cool, are you making a minecraft film? Oh, and I think there's a little to much grass.

Re: The CGI Thread

No, just brushing up on my rendering skills.

As for the grass, I didn't choose that, I just exported what was in the game.

Re: The CGI Thread

Here's a very successful test render I just made of one of my Bionicle MOCs in Blender:

I know the rocks need work, but are there any other critiques anyone can give me? And just in case you didn't know, that "noise" is just the bump map for the sand, and not a side effect.

Re: The CGI Thread

Wow, that's really nice! Some of the shadowed parts look a bit funny though. mini/wink

Re: The CGI Thread

Thanks! Funny-looking shadows... on the model or the sand?

Re: The CGI Thread

Looks fantastic!

I think the funny shadows are the model.
You can fix them with a low point light, or set the global illumination on.

Re: The CGI Thread

Thanks! I think those funny-looking "shadows" are just the reflections off the armor, then.

Re: The CGI Thread

The Bionicle model is impressively made (Did you model the parts yourself? Because I've never seen any of the pieces in MLCAD or LeoCAD or anything similar). The ground seems a little rough and bland however (Are you using soft shadows?). The sky is also a bit bland; you should add some clouds or variation in the sky's color. The lighting also seems a bit harsh, you should not make the energy so high. Instead, use a variation of lights with different colors (Unless you've already done that. If so, you can disregard the above). Still pretty good though.

Re: The CGI Thread

It was supposed to look like a barren desert, plus it was only a test for the materials and textures of the Bionicle model. And the pieces I got from Bionicle: Next Generation (although I did model a few of them).

Re: The CGI Thread

Finally got some time to mess around with Blender and I came up with this.
Its suppose to be plasma shots coming from a blaster/gun but I haven't attached to to a gun... yet.  I was just looking from some general feedback on the speed of the shots, the "explosions" when the shots hit the wall, or anything else you might see that needs improvement.

Thanks!

Wingman_mn

P.S.  Try the video in 720p Full Screen to catch the char marks on the wall.

If I'm on the forums, I'm probably waiting for Blender to finish rendering.

Re: The CGI Thread

Seems pretty good.  I suppose you wanted it to actually have explosions appear when it strikes something yes?  As far as my experience goes, that part may have to be done manually.  Not an active user of Blender so I can't say for certain, but if the particle emitters in Blender don't give you control of a secondary or tertiary particle emitter (by that, I mean, one particle of one emitter becomes an emitter, like a fireworks explosion where each particle creates its own fireworks explosion with its own parameters, distinct from its parent), the you may have to create separate explosion emitters for each strike.

Case and point: See the green lights?  Those are from one emitter.  The explosions are from another emitter that had to be positioned and timed to where the particles struck the ship.

Re: The CGI Thread

So today I made a render out of an old model I made 2 years ago.
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tomgudde/tomgudde001/bridge_warm_test.jpg
It's a draft. The Water and the coast are just placeholders. I retextured the whole thing so that it looked more shiney and plastic.

Re: The CGI Thread

Ignore the top edges of the frame, and note that there will be a motion blur added to the speeders later.

Re: The CGI Thread

Looks awesome!
I do, however, notice some issues in the top left corner.
Did you duplicate the section, but not move it?

This is Blender, right?

Re: The CGI Thread

If you're doing this in CG, I think you should vary the landscape more. It's quite dull at the moment, some hills and thick foliage in some spots would make it a lot more interesting I think.
