Personally I'd say just mess around with the camera settings until you get it looking how you want. If it's at night and there are windows, you can go with a blue lamp and still fiddle with camera settings, but the blue light would be more exclusive to nighttime outside.

I am currently filming in a dark room and i've used dark grey bricks for the set and dimmed the brightness on the camera, then in post production im going to dim it down slightly more. The reason i'm doing the rest of the dimming in post production is because I still want the quality I get filming in on bright set as I tend to find that if I make it too dark the quality looks.... Dodgy.

If at night, add a blue tint by placing a blue gel over a light (Also dims the light ). If just a dark room then don't do that.

Lower your exposure and gain levels. Keep exposure higher than gain. Adjust focus and tip the contrast up slightly.

You don't need black bricks for it to work: I used white bricks here.

yesterday i was messing around with lighting for my batman film and i came up with this

i used a led flash light on a hook at about 3 feet over the set.

Some specific lights are available in market, and those you can got from the any departmental store...
I got from it electric store which is near to my home...
