Topic: Masking Compromise?

Hi guys! mini/smile

Okay, I'm having a problem with masking a flying block of Lego.

When I add the Lego piece to the scene, the lighting increases due to the reflective surface of the piece. As such, when I take a background shot to place under the frame for masking, the area where i removed the stand holding up the Lego block is always darker than the rest of the picture.
It looks like masking is unable to help, so I'm wondering is there any know substitute to masking?

Thanks guys! mini/smile

You can do anything, just have fun while doing it.

Re: Masking Compromise?

If you can, talk to mobdeli. One great suggestion is that you don't always have to take a picture without the minifig (or object). As long as it doesn't appear under what you are masking out you can use then second picture with the minifig still in it. Plus, the lighting stays the same. Did you understand that?

Re: Masking Compromise?

I think I did. However, the lighting changes as the object moves across the screen.

I've done it anyway, using clear bricks to hold it up instead of masking. However, I am still interested in hearing your ideas.

Re: Masking Compromise?

I know a way to mask that is not as popular but works better check it out in the bricks in motion resources it is called masking with gimp VERY HELPFULL!

P.S. gimp is a FREE photo editing software like Photoshop

Re: Masking Compromise?

what you have to do is cut out the entire object and paste it on the empty frame.

Re: Masking Compromise?

I'm too lazy to do masking (and in general scared of doing anything in post-production), so I cheat by just attaching the flying object to something in the background with a really long LEGO piece or something like that. It's really hard to animate that well though because blue tack doesn't secure it too well so it starts slipping downwards slowly.

Ha, that's what I normally like to do.
