There is a local film festival going on that I would like to submit a LEGO stop-motion animated film to, but I'm not sure how that works legally with the LEGO Corporation.
From what I understand, I will be allowed to submit the film to a film festival, but won't be able to accept any potential cash rewards for winning it.
Has anyone contacted LEGO about this, or won a film festival with a LEGO film?
ANP won best animation at a film festival, no ideal if their where prizes though.
I know an animator who wins cash prizes in film festivals with his brickfilms.
I don't see a problem. Never heard of people having trouble with Lego here in germany. Just write in the end, that this is not an official Lego film and they didn't sponsor it.

I don't really do film festivals. Their just...I don't know. I'm not that kind of person that has $400 for plane fares in my wallet. Hopefully, there will be a film festival in Central Texas, sometime soon.

True, that was for "Pirates Rule!" I got a little shiny plastic trophy with the title of my film misprinted on it (they left out the exclamation point).
I also won the Imperial Flagship for build-a-brickbuster in the "Best Pirate" category, beating Marooned. By far my biggest LEGO set.
An old film my brother and I made "Bohrok Attack!" won 2nd place prize in the Nicktoons LEGO shorts contest in 2008. Among other notable winners where LGFB, Philip Heinrick, David M. Picket, and Garret.
I got a LOAD of SpongeBob LEGO, a LEGO gift card (which I used to buy some castle LEGO), and a LEGO trophy.
So, yeah, I've won some good stuff from my films.
I'm planning to submit Bank to some more stuff and try to rack up some more awards and prizes, et cetera.
If Pirates' could win an animation award, just imagine what Bank could do...

What film festival for bank? Because I'm interested in sending my work to film festivals.
Okay. Related to the topic, what if you wanted to sell copies of your LEGO movie on DvD?

Lots of people ask to use LEGO sets in their films but we nearly always have to say no. We can only say yes if it's an educational film or if it's a project that no-one's making any money from. So you are correct, to be able to use our bricks in your film there can be no monetary gain.

What kind of implications does this bare for YouTube users? Such as Partners and AdSense members?

I recently won one with LEGO and I wasn't told about any legal troubles.
Same here. I credited the Lego Group and that was about enough to stop me from getting sued.
That's the standard LEGO legal line. It's easier to shut people down preemptively than to pursue them on shaky grounds after the fact.

More like everyone in the world who has ads on their Brickfilms. This is annoying, because I hoped to have ads up soon....

Yes, it's quite unnerving for me as I already have ads on mine and was aiming for a partnership as well. This doesn't seem quite true though, or at least LEGO hasn't ever taken any action against anyone on YouTube. For example, the LEGO group has commissioned several people on these forums to make an animation for them (Zoot101 for example), who are already making money through their brickfilms. The LEGO group would have had to have seen their other videos on YouTube before they thought of commissioning them and LEGO hasn't seemed to do anything about it. In fact, by commissioning said people, they seem to be encouraging it in a way. Not to mention, Spite Your Face Productions.
