Re: YouTube

Couple questions. First of all, if you use a copyrighted song, how do you put the "song credits" in the description. (Example: NXTManiac's "Meet Kazoo: Meet Ethan").
Second, will using that keep me from getting in trouble with copyrights? mini/cat

Nope.
Unless you contact the holder of the copyright and make a deal with him, you are still illegaly using the song.
Now, some people don't really care that much, you can put Star Wars music on, and they won't take it down.
But it really depends on the copyright holder.

Re: YouTube

Why don't the videos with copyrighted songs get pulled (like some of NXT's and JK's)?

Re: YouTube

Well, like I said, some people don't care if you use the music or not.
Others don't mind as long as you credit them.

As to the "Song Credits", Youtube puts those there sometimes on the videos, so that people have the chance to buy the song after they listen to it in the video. You can't put it there, or take it off. And sometimes Youtube can't tell if the song is copyrighted or not. Take This for example.

Youtube hasn't said anything to me about the copyright in this, but the song is obviously the Superman Theme. So Youtube hasn't detected it yet, or doesn't care. Either way, the video is still up for people to enjoy.

I think that Youtube has software that scans all the videos uploaded for any song that is copyrighted, when they detect something, they let you know. If the people that wrote the song don't want it on-line, then Youtube will remove it. But if not, it gets to stay. Sometimes they put an ad in the video info, and other times not. But if it slips past the software, then Youtube doesn't know that it's copyrighted, and they'll leave it alone.
Does all that answer your question?

Re: YouTube

pretty much all my old videos have star wars music and they're still up (blocked in Germany tho)

In one of my recent videos, I put the song "Eye Of The Tiger" onto my video. In the credits I put the song name, the author of the song, and a disclaimer saying no profit was made from this video etc. etc.....And YouTube didn't write me up at all.

I'm working on getting my studio back up and running, so stay posted...

Re: YouTube

I believe that if you credit the artist, most of the time YouTube will allow it, as long as you're not profiting from it.

Nope. It's up to the company who owns the song's copyright. If they don't want you using their song on YouTube, they;ll take it down whether you credit them or not.

Makes no difference.

Exactly. If giving credit to the artist worked then nobody would ever say a bad thing about copyright restrictions on youtube. If you upload a copyrighted song it's simply 50/50 whether it's gonna be taken down or not and even if you won't be muted when you uploaded the video there's no guarantee that you won't be muted after a year or two (which is even worse than being muted instantly).

Re: YouTube

Has anyone here ever had a video not approved for monetization? I just recently uploaded a video and tried to monetize it and it got disabled for just that video. I'm having to go through the appeal process as I have the necessary rights for commercial use of all content within the video. Does anyone have any idea how long this could take?
