Topic: Camera question/decision... Confused, very much :s

Back in 2007 I got a Nikon D40x and I just realized I could probably use it for stop motion. But.. I really wanted to use a camera that I could hook up to the computer so I could use onion skinning. Does anyone know if that camera will actually hook up to the computer and do a live feed sort of thing? Specifically in stop motion pro. If not.. could someone please explain to me how I'm supposed to make brickfilms without onion skinning, but still have it so it's smooth looking. I just thought onion skinning would make life a little bit easier. but if you guys know any tips for making it easier to move the legos or not 'lose your place'. I just don't think I'm gonna be able to get the same quality with a web cam I've been debating on buying. (the logitech c910) Does anyone know how good of a quality that web cam does? OR should I get the Quickcam 9000? I'm so confused :s

If you have a Mac, I'd recommend the C910.  If you have a PC, I'd recommend the Quickcam Pro 9000.  The Quickcam shoots at 720p HD, and the C910 shoots at 1080p HD.  As for the Onion Skinning question, I can't help you.

And, how do I tell if it's a dslr? sorry, I don't really know much about cameras anymore.

Most Nikon DSLRs work with stop motion pro. With livefeed.
EDIT: I googled it, it's a SLR camera. Not sure if it is digital though.

Well... maybe I'll stick with the webcam option for now then... Which one should I get? I think if the C910 does full hd then I should get that one right?

From the research that I've done briefly it appears that the Nikon D40x cannot provide Live View, however it can be hooked up and used with stop motion software. The downside is no Live View but you can still animate with it quite well. I think it would produce higher quality than a webcam would. I use a Canon T2i and have no stop motion software and thus I cannot use onion skinning and I find that it still is quite simple and easy.

I know, I really wanna use that nice camera because it does take some awesome pictures... but I've seen some videos that were taken with the C910 and they look just about the same quality. I think I'm just gonna try the C910 for now.

eye-fi is a way of transporting your images, downloading them to your computer as they're taken. As quoted from stop motion pro:

The Eye-Fi SD card allows wireless transfer of images from digital cameras to computer as they are taken.

When setup correctly, the card will download shots as they are taken, directly from the camera to a directory on your computer. Stop Motion Pro scans this directory and adds the new frames as they appear.  The frame captures is triggered by pressing the camera shutter button (or remote control), not from within Stop Motion Pro.

What it is saying is that it's importing the images to SMP, instantly. It still is not live though, since it's only transporting images take from your camera. It is essentially the same as just taking the SD card out of your camera, and into your computer, then opening them up in stop motion pro. You still won't have onion skinning though.
