Topic: Turning Point: Fall of Liberty - Story Overview and info

I gotta warn ya, there's a good sized text wall down there.

Hey everyone, this is my latest project, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, based on the video game of the same name.
Allow me to explain how the project got started, if you don't me explaining of course. When said video game was released in 2007, it basically fell straight into the ground after takeoff, failing very badly. It's quite unfortunate that such a good idea was so poorly executed, and since then everyone, even the developers forgot about it.

That is, until I got my copy for $10 brand new a few years ago.

I instantly fell in love with it's initial concept, overall design and score by the amazing Micheal Giacchino, composer for many famous games and movies, including but not limited to the Medal of Honor series And The Incredibles. But the game just felt... very rushed and "half-effort" about midway through the short story mode. I could see why it flopped so bad. Seeing imminent failure in my then still going project, LNZ, I began to consider it as a new, fresh project to captivate my audience with. After it was clear that in it's current state LNZ was finished, I started drafting designs for sets and vehicles, placing Bricklink orders, upgrading my software and hardware and re-writing the story. I basically wrote a new story from scratch, because the old one was so full of holes. I'm building the set for the trailer currently, and I'll hopefully start filming on that in March. Now enough about the project origins, on to the story.

The basic plotline is as follows; In December of 1931, the then obscure British Diplomat, Winston Churchill is struck by a taxi cab while visiting New York City. He had to walk with a cane for the rest of his life, but he lived on to bring about victory in the Battle of Britain, and foil the plans of invasion by Hitler's Reich. it is debated that the Battle of Britain is one of, if the not the Most crucial turning point in the war, buying the Allies enough time to prepare an invasion of their own and beat the Axis back for good.

But what if Churchill hadn't survived?

This is where Turning Point's story really comes in. Story overview; Churchill never becomes Prime Minister, and through a set of very unlucky decisions in the late 30's, Britain falls to the German Reich in 1940. Thousands of British escape to Newfoundland in Canada. In spring of 1941, Operation Barbarossa catches the Soviet Union completely off guard, and the Soviets are defeated when Moscow is reached just before winter in 1942. The Soviet Government and thousands of citizens flee to Alaska. The minorities of Europe seek refuge in the United States, as North America becomes the last bastion of hope for the victims of Axis expansion. Japan launches a massive campaign in the Pacific in late 1941, with Australia being recently accepted into statehood with the United States to prevent it's capture by the Japanese. The Allied governments, now crammed together on the North American continent, debate on what is to be done. It is suggested that Mexico and South American territories be merged with the U.S. and Canada to get a better grip on the continent, and form a stronger defense against any Axis attack. All agree but Mexico, and soon after Mexico declares war on the United States. Germany sends aid in the form of weapons and supplies, not getting directly involved, as it's own industry is stretched to it's limits trying to settle and police its new territories. The American War Machine rears up and makes an impressive effort, and with Canada, crushes Mexico and divides it between themselves. South American nations such as Brazil are voted into the newly formed Republic of Canada and United Continental States of America. Preperations are made across the coastlines of both nations, in hope that the Axis attack never comes.

As Canada pushes on towards Greenland, Germany, alarmed at the response the Americans and Canadians have made, offers a compromise in Greenland; Stop expanding your borders, and we split Greenland right down the middle and we will never invade you or the U.C.S.A. the agreement is signed somewhere around 1945, and the global conquest subsides. Resistance and Insurgency is rising to epidemic levels in France, Britain, Vietnam, China and Russia as the Axis struggles to contain the angry populace of their new borders. As the situation is dealt with, the nations of the world develop new technologies. Germany greatly advances guided missiles and jet fighters, while the British WINDOW program in North America and produces the most accurate Radar systems yet. Assault rifles are drafted both by Germany and the Soviet remnants, all the while Italy and Japan following close behind Germany.
Years go by with no invasion, to everyone's relief. The U.C.S.A is in the middle of a good Economic rise, developing amazing new feats in commercial technology such as fuel efficient automobiles, sturdy, stylish new skyscrapers and television. Although unknown to the unsuspecting Allies, an invasion plan, long in development, for North and South America is now being set in motion by the Axis.

On September 30th, 1953, the Canadian Radar station in Greenland, provider of forward intelligence for the O.S.S., reports suspicious activity coming from the coastlines of Europe. Suddenly, out of the snowstorm, two full Panzer Divisions open fire on the Radar Arrays, destroying one of the towers. Canadian Forces in the region mobilize and retaliate. The Germans, in Autumn equipment, not even knowing that a snowstorm was about to hit, were being beaten quite badly. Canadian Helicopter-mounted units quickly cut off the ill-equipped Germans, and captured nearly the entire attacking force. Soon after the attack had ended, a mass of objects was seen on radar, moving across the Atlantic with frightening speed. Then it all becomes clear. The O.S.S. is informed of the situation, and America prepares for the worst.

And that's where the film starts.

Please tell me what you think, Ive been working Very hard at making the plot make sense, and I apologize for the text wall. I've already started on Vehicles, props, sets and figures for the series, photos of which can be seen on my Flickr Photostream. I post updates there regularly. If you have any questions, ask away, and I'll do my best to answer them. I really hope you all like this, as I've said, it took a lot of time and effort to develop. Once more, tell me what you think, and tell me of any idea/suggestions you have, I'd love to hear them. if I violated any rules with this post, tell me and I'll correct it right away.

Sounds interesting! A few comments:
First off, I think the idea sounds wonderful. I've always been interested in alternative histories mini/tongue I personally feel like UCSA seems a little long for a country; I'm not sure if it's said in the film, but if so I'd either leave out the "America' (thus UCS) or rearrange the letters (like CUSA) and have them say it like a new word (Coosuh). Of course depending on how often the characters refer to the country, it might not be a problem.
You present this all like it's a backstory, but it seems to me that this could almost be a film in and of itself. Not sure if you've contemplated how you're going to present this to the audience before the actual film starts. I could see it be like a news report style thing, with clips of main points with a narrator explaining what's happening, or possibly a short prequel film. Or you could just throw the audience into the middle of the snowstorm and explain everything as the film goes along mini/tongue
Final note, although I'm obviously not aware of Germany's plan, it seems stupid of them to attack a Canadian Radar Station if they're ill-equipped. I'd be interested in knowing of their motivation to go and deliberately die; if they had managed to do enough damage to render the Radar obsolete, thus allowing them to move whatever they have across the Atlantic unseen, then I would understand, but as it stands now I can't see very clear motivation. Maybe that's the point, however, in which case good job mini/tongue
Overall I think this idea has great great potential, and I'll be looking forward to updates! A link to your Flickr would be awesome mini/smile

Thanks for your feedback! Now to address your questions:

U.C.S.A is quite easy to pronounce once you get used to it, and most Americans still like to call it U.S.A.
As for explaining the story, it is going to be explained in Newsreels from the 30's and 40's as well as a voice-over narration. Finally, German weather forecasts aren't nearly as good as Allied forecasts. They never even knew the storm was coming, and assumed it was still quite placid in Greenland. The Radar Station, also being a major weather station, saw it coming from a hundred miles away, literally. =b Since the attack failed, the invasion force could be seen clear as day, although it was supposed to be quickly destroyed. Axis radar for the most part is several years behind the Allies, as most of the developed systems not left behind in England made it overseas to be developed further. If you want to know anything else, let me know. EDIT: Here is a link to my Flickr, as requested. http://www.flickr.com/photos/js9productions/
