Topic: Image Quality Help

I have Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 and have seen some beautifully filmed images with this type of webcam. What I wanted to ask is what the settings such as: exposure, gain, brightness, ect. should be put at for peek quality. I know lighting is very important but I am almost certain my problem is the settings. My other big problem is camera noise. Is there a way to eliminate this completetly or almost; still using a webcam.

Re: Image Quality Help

These are the ideal settings. It also needs to be perfectly in focus.

The image needs to be larger. I can hardly see the settings.

Filmaking is an art not a science, there are no ideal settings.

My advice is to just play with it for each scene to find a look you like. Quality is overated, good cinematography is key.

Re: Image Quality Help

I have heard that opening the exposure all the way, and lowering the gain as low as possible helps. Alot of it you just have to experiment with.

Yes, it's hard to see them.

Re: Image Quality Help

LOL every single scene is different just don't be afraid and adjust all the settings the way you like each time you film.

Re: Image Quality Help

Here's my settings.  I get great quality with no light flicker with these.

Some other important things are resolution set to HD (at least 1280x720), frame averaging at 10, and at least 3 lamps without paper.

You do it without paper over the lamps? mini/confused  I thought it would be to bright without it most people say the opposite. Any way. By the way how do you do frame averaging and with what software? I don't think mine does it.

I think it would depend on how bright your lamps are.

Mine have full-spectrum bulbs, 40 watt.

It's also how close you have the lamps, too.

Frame averaging is a way to smooth out the graininess of your pictures. This can be done in a frame capturing program from something as simple as Helium Frog to something as elaborate as Dragon. The usual settings for Frame Averaging may vary, but somewhere in between 5-10 seems to work for most animators.

You might not have the latest version of the software.  You can get it at the Logitech website.

Setting something to HD means changing the resolution.  Usually, it's found in the capture settings (or something similarly named) of a capture software.

Re: Image Quality Help

How do you use frame averager in Helium Frog? Where do you find it in the software? Does Monkey Jam have it too and if so where do you find it in that also?

I haven't used Helium Frog in a while, but I believe if you click on the 'Settings' button, and look through the options it should be there.

I do not know if Monkey Jam has frame averaging, though I haven't seen the option when I've used it.
