Animation as in... CGI maybe? Even if the motions are from the people the rendering and other stuff is animation.

CGI films are animation, but to be specific, animation is the characters actions and movements (pretty sure there's a more definite definition, but I'm just too lazy to pull it up right now), while rendering (materials etc.) are the appearance of the characters. While the film may be an animation, talking about the animation specifically would not be the appearance of the characters.
I'd like to point out that even in a film created with motion capture technology, there is a significant portion of the animation that still has to be completed through traditional means. Even more so if the film is heavy on action. We can't totally dismiss the animation as a factor in the film.
True. I'm sure the dog was traditionally animated, at the very least, and vehicles and possibly even crowds were probably animated traditionally as well.
One point I was going to make about motion capture before I got lost in the heat of "Mo-cap = Animation?" argument is that it's motion capture, basically taking a live action and putting it in the computer, so of course the animation is going to look realistic.
The word animation can be used to describe any type of movement.
Of course, when talking about films, you're usually referring to animation created in computer, stop-motion, or other means.
As it would be odd to say something like The Wizard of Oz has very realistic animation, though, it is true.

Not exactly. In the dictionary, the definition of animation is "the state of being full of life or vigor; liveliness," so if you were to describe the movements of an excited person as "animation," you would be correct. However, if you were describing the movements of a severely depressed person, you'd probably be wrong.
Basically, if you're talking about live-action/real life, animation is movement, but movement is not animation. If you're talking about animated films, animation and movement are the same thing.

I believe he's referring to the render quality, as opposed to the actual movements themselves. I agree with Rusy, the render quality is among the most realistic I've ever seen in a CGI film.

Ya'know, I thought this would be really boring at first, I didn't have much high-hopes for it. I thought it would be some other romantic comedy film though once it got farther in, it turned out quite well.
I love when the detective got stuck in the Renaissance. =P

I think I'm going to go see it on Monday.
It was awesome! I saw it opening day. Plus, yesterday I watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It had me laughing like crazy.

Wow, I don't know what to say. There were bits I loved, and bits I didn't. I enjoyed the crash, it was phenomenal, I was standing up in front of my monitor in excitement when it happened, and the action was incredible. The only problems were Joe, who's romance was annoying in the beginning (this may have been intended,) the alien, who was, despite the intentions, very cheesy, and the ending. Don't get me wrong, the ending was fine, but I don't like the "here is your ending, these people are alive, their lives are pretty much destroyed, and let's just forget about these various people who are now probably dying in a hole..." And I HATE spaceships, they irritate me. The standoff was very predictable, and the alien aspect was kooky. But I enjoyed the film aspect, the kids were believable for the most part, and the humor was well placed. I did have an attachment to some characters, and I did enjoy the beginning. (Why is it that in almost every film, I enjoy the beginning, and the rest is mush?) Overall, a great film, I enjoyed myself, and I recommend it, just don't watch it if you are susceptible to vomiting by seeing someone vomit for even a short period of time, one of the kids has a problem with that.
Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol
I love Brad Bird. I love his work and his style. Mission: Impossible: GP (wow, two colons?) was good, but not his best work. It's an action flick starring Tom Cruise. I, unfortunately, was unable to watch it in the 3D IMAX theater, which might have added more depth (I doubt it though). The film was one of the better Mission films out there though. The story was decent, and the characters were nice. A couple of complaints were I have are that some of the action scenes were a little out there and the final stand-off was a little to long.
This isn't a Jason Borne film or a Bond film, but Ghost Protocol was still a good watch.

They aren't major, or even minor characters, so why should we need to see if they get out or not?

Very well done mo-cap, very Indiana Jones-esque, very enjoyable. I think my mind might have exploded when I realized that, at one point in the film, there hadn't been any cuts for well over two minutes. That shot (which I think was anywhere between 3 or 5 minutes long) must have been a nightmare to plan out and execute.
