Topic: Mouth Animation?

Do you guys think its better if the mouths moves when a minifig talks or not?

Re: Mouth Animation?

It's really your opinion. It does look a lot nicer if you have mouth animation. On the downside It takes a lot longer to make. I personally animate to the sound waves of my lines.

Re: Mouth Animation?

Ya I think for all the pain animating with out the mouth movement is better

Re: Mouth Animation?

Like a lot of things, it can look better if it's done well. If it's done badly, it can detract from an otherwise well-animated film.

That's actually a good idea for spot on syncing with lines.

If you can do it well, do it. If not, don't do it. It can be done very badly, and usually is.
No one will complain if your film has no mouth animation. But everyone will complain if it's done badly.

Re: Mouth Animation?

I prefer it moving but the "old-fashion" way is good and clasic as well if you try to do mouth movements good luck:)

Re: Mouth Animation?

Using mouth animation is good in some cases but I don't really prefer to use it.

I'm working on getting my studio back up and running, so stay posted...

Re: Mouth Animation?

It makes it nicer but without is still nice..

Re: Mouth Animation?

I like it serious films, but in comedic ones it can be distracting.

Re: Mouth Animation?

Mouth animation is always good, if you make the mouth visually appealing. If it's lets say...just a rigid polygon flashing on and off, then it's a good idea to not use it. Then again, try it anyways, because you will never improve if you never try. I produce mine in Sony Vegas, and it is relatively simple! For a while, I stopped using them, and then now, I'm back. I need to get in 'shape' to get back to how I used to be, but otherwise, mini/delirium

Re: Mouth Animation?

I think it's better without mouth animation, but that's just me.

Re: Mouth Animation?

It needs very much work or you can buy some expensive program that makes it a little easier than without.

I think this is some: http://www.reallusion.com/crazytalk/

Re: Mouth Animation?

As long as it is done well I think it adds to the film. But sometimes it is so bad it actually would be better for it to be left out.

Re: Mouth Animation?

As a purist I usually prefer no mouth animations, I tend to animate with very little post production, only what is absolutely necessary. Mouth animation usually only looks good on the level of Unrenewable, when it is on a unbelievably level of realism.

Re: Mouth Animation?

when i start animation i used movement and it does take time to do mouth animation but i prefer mouth animation anyway though.

Re: Mouth Animation?

I would only use it if you can nail the proper phonemes and make it blend into the shot with CC.  Most mouth animation i have seen is just an obnoxious black flap poping in and out when the person talks.

I just need three more actors for my new film, check the casting call here.

*Bump*
I think that the best is WITH mouth animation. It's not as hard as many people think, you just have to know how you do it.
I recently made a mouth animation test, using Stop Motion Pro and Photoshop.
