Try using Firewire

[cynical]Yes indeed! try really hard and you can probably squeeze the firewire connector into your camera's USB port...[/cynical]

Cynicism doesn't mean being an ass and treating someone who was trying to be helpful like they're a moron. He obviously didn't mean that you should shove a Firewire cable into a USB port. They do sell USB to Firewire adapters.

Knowing nothing about cameras, I can't claim I know whether that would do anything to rectify the problem. Regardless, you don't have to be so condescending about it.

DragonFrame is pretty expensive and I think that fine capture programs are free too. I mean that I won't never buy DragonFrame without lottery win (jackpot, 7 right). Or something that I'll get some 100 000 euros. mini/bigsmile

Of course my advise is for those who are more enthusiastic and willing to spend some money for their hobby. But then again if you're only able to spend +- $500 on a camera and thinking you'll be doing great animations without proper software that cost's some bucks you're just wasting your money on that cam. Instead of that better get a Q9000 which shipps will the capture software.

My thoughts exactly! That's why I didn't go for the brand new nice DSLR, but bought a used one so my budget allowed me to also buy the proper software. And boy, it is worth it!

I stand corrected! Apologies if I offended anyone with my reply which was unnecessary rude. Frustrations on my side got the better of me...

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

I downloaded the trial for Dragon, but when I connect the DSLR, and open the program I can't get live view and I can't capture. mini/confused

Are you sure you don't get live view? For me, initially, the view from the Canon cam is way too dark so you have to up the exposure preview offset...

Does Dragon say that it sees the camera?

Do you have windows or mac?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Windows. When I click the capture button it says: "Capture unavailable while camera is triggered by DESC settings" or something along the lines of that.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Sounds like another program is "claiming" the camera...
Myself, I have mac, didn't have that particular problem.

DESC stands for Dragon Electronic Shutter Control, but that's where my knowledge ends...
It looks like DESC is something Dragon uses for film cameras.
Do you have the cam in photo mode? Or did you put it in film mode? (Does the 500 have that option?)

Your cam might not have live view. Or being supported well by Dragon Frame.

Check out their list for live view supported cameras

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

To anyone who has the Canon T3I, I was wondering:

Is it able to be hooked up too Stop Motion Pro? I might want to get it sometime. I was thinking about getting the Canon 1000D like boardron, but he does not know if it is compatible with Stop Motion Pro, and the camera being unable to shoot video kind of sealed the deal on me not getting it.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

I have an older Pentax K100D that is never used, I was wondering if it is compatible with any animation software or is suitable for animation at all. I plugged it into the computer using a video pc output to a USB port, but it only recognised it as a memory drive.

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Can someone teach us about a cradle for the T3i or the T2i?

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

What does it mean when a camera has for example 100,000 cycles? Is it how many times you can take picture? Or release the shutter?

For a dslr that's the same thing. Most shutters have a life expectancy of 100.000 clicks, but that's not guaranteed.

Which means for me, after allready 15.000 clicks and around 40.000 to come for the cureent project my cam has reached half of its life time expectency within 5 years. That's not bad at all. mini/smile

Then again, there's no guarantee that the shutter will last the 100k clicks. It might fail at 50.000 but it can just als well last 150.000 clicks...

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Yeah! I finally get Nikon D3100 from Cristmas gift. It's wonderfull camera. I started to study it today and I didn't find a way for dark pictures without flash and with flash the pic was too bright, so I wathed good tutorial in YouTube and I find nice way to fix my problem, 'cause I didn't find exposure time, so I watched the tutorial and found the way that was in front of my nose, 'cause I didn't noticed that the command disk define it, so I roll it and tested to shoot some pic and it went better so i tested few times and finally got it nice. Good gift and good purchase!

Thanks "Santa" or my parents! mini/bigsmile And I bought half of price myself! mini/XD

Re: The D-SLR Discussion

Now me and my team are going to film on Friday with a camera that costs more than a car!  mini/tongue   I hope we don't break it.  With it comes a microphone w/ a boom pole and a pro audio studio system.  I CANNOT WAIT!
